Hcg Diet--Similar To The Sleeve "feeling"?

Recommended Posts

Ok, I know this is a weird question, but I am trying to PREPARE myself for how I will feel in the months after surgery. I did the HCG diet a few years ago. I know, I know, I lost weight and gained it all back. However, while I was on the diet, I felt little if any real hunger. Any hunger I had was head hunger, and I dealt with it. I was amazed with myself. It is the only "diet" I have ever done where my hunger was controlled, and it was the lowest calorie diet i have ever done. Is this how it feels after being sleeved--that is, low levels of "real" hunger but with some head hunger? I hope I am making sense... My sleeve will be a "tool" for me, and I assume the tool works because it is restrictive and eliminates great hunger. I "think" if I can get the real hunger tamed, the head hunger will be easier for me to control, as it was for me on the HCG diet.

May I ask why you think you gained it back? Have you worked through that?

For me I have had little of either head or real hunger. I actually think some of my real hunger is an odd resction to needing an antiacid. If I can't quite tell if it is hunger, about hlf the time antiacids have actually cancelled out the hunger.

I agree with Pookey - I had very little real or head hunger. I mean, I do have cravings, but I dont feel it like a hunger. Just a big sigh! :-) Probably because I know that I cant tolerate those foods that I crave for right now. So my cravings just vanish.

The hardest time will be when you have meals with your family or friends. That is when the cravings become too hard to resist. I just make a really tasty Soup for those times and avoid looking at the food as much as possibe :-(

I never did HCG but I am 2.5 months post-op. Head hunger is the only real hunger I've experienced. Sometimes I feel empty and I know it is time to eat, but I can't say I've been hungry. Often times the word hungry leaves my mouth for lack of a better word to express to others what I am feeling.

You shouldnt experience "hunger" after being sleeved. More often than not you will mistake thirst or acid reflux for hunger. Just pay attention to your body and remember you are on an awesome journey!

15 MoNTHS Out.....103 lbs lighter down from a size 22 to 6-8s

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
