How Do You Know If You Have A Blockage?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am almost 3 weeks post-op & am wondering how I will know if I have a blockage or leak? I was following a thread of a young lady who ate some of the forbidden food. I too resorted to eating some things I shouldn't have b/c I cannot tolerate the Protein Drinks anymore. I throw up quite often & especially in the evening time. I'm getting worried b/c I can't get all my Proteins in. Today I've had a Greek yogurt with a cup of coffee for Breakfast, an egg for lunch & am hoping to eat some soft fish for dinner. I don't want to end up in the hospital with complications nor ruin what I've wanted for so long. Any suggestions? Any info that might help me?

Thanks so much!

Susan

coffee is a no no! causes reflux and even ulcers. you should not drink anything with meals---wait at least 30 minutes after meals. if you keep testing your sleep and vomiting you can have complications. stick with your surgeon's diet plan and don't cheat. at 3 wks you have alot of choices, everything soft of course, but you can eat moistened meats and cooked veggies, peeled and softened fruit. do not eat fried foods! it's something you need to commit to for life, to be healthier and use your sleeve to it's fullest. it's not easy to make these changes, but you really have to decide to make the sleeve you tool to start a new relationship with food, a healthier relationship. food is fuel. I'm going to be 4 weeks out tomorrow and I'm slowly learning to use my sleeve to build a healthier me.

I have been trying to drink V8 and I have been drinking the Zero Calorie Vitamin Waters. My paperwork says coffee is o.k.with non-fat milk, but it makes since that it would cause reflux, etc. I only tried Isopure in the hospital in the hospital, but when I called my local GNC they said they were selling them for $4-5 a bottle. That's to high for me.

Dear Fitforlife,

I'm starting my 3 week. What are some of the things you can recommend me eating? I, too, am having a hard time w drinking Isopure and Protein drinks.

we started at the same weight on the day of surgery! I had mine on 1/23/12. so in terms of things to eat, let me give you examples for each meal:

Breakfast: cottage cheese, greek yogurt, eggs, cheeses

lunch: tuna, lunch meats, cheeses, any soft fish (not fried), very moist chicken, soft Beans, soft lentils, and cooked veggies. (for instance I made a chili with pintos/lean ground beef and tomatoes/onions). make sure to mash up each bite before taking it and chew it 30 times in you mouth---I am for that, but usually chew about 20, until it's like baby food in you mouth. you don't want anything bigger going into your sleeve and causing problems

dinner: similar to lunch. you want to avoid rice, Pasta, bread, anything starchy or sugary. go low carb. Beans and dairy have carbs, but minimal they have Protein and they don't expand much in your new sleeve. starches expand and can cause major discomfort and may risk leakage.

if you make a meal for your family you can select the soft protien rich part and eat it----like if you make spaghetti and meatballs, you can have a meatball, just mush and chew alot. try to get lean beef if you can. I would avoid steak until 6 months out, it's just too tough and the muscle fibers are to thick to be safe in your new sleeve until 6 months.

best of luck

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
