I Bought A Bike

Recommended Posts

Yes, I bought a new bike that I can comfortably ride. I am so proud that my weight loss has allowed me to engage in a activity I use to throughly enjoy. When I was at my highest weight I couldnt comfortably ride a bike and was embarassed by my weight. Friday I was one month post op and decided I needed to start exercising. Having heel spurs causes me great difficulty walking. However, I was advised that with continual weight loss this will improve. Last nite I rode for 20 mins and have no soreness today. I know bicycling will require me to at least ride an hour before I begin burning calories. I am just so excited I can enjoy riding again and with my 11 yr old son.

I am sure you'll really enjoy your new bike. I bought a bike last summer before my surgery to increase my exercise activity options. My town has a pretty nice bike path that travels arounds the town and a college campus. Its been fun getting back into biking. It had been 15+ years since I rode a bike. It was comical when I went to a bike store to try a few out, on a bumpy dirt road in back of the store. I was so hoping that saying about "once you learn to ride a bike you never forget" was true. I was pretty woobley and uncoordinated at first. My 2 sons thought watching their 45 year old mom attempt to ride a bike after so many years was waaaay hysterical. The sales guy said "Why do I feel like this is going to end up on Youtube?" Have fun and dont forget your helmet.

Even 20 minutes on the bike will burn calories and speed up your metabolism. Keep it up. I'm up to 20 miles a day and I'd like to do a century ride before the end of the year.

This is great news for you and me both. I had both knee's replaced last year, but with sleep apnia, and a shortness of breath, I couldn't exercise much. I had a hard time just walking out to get my newspaper. Since I have had the sleeve, I have lost about 35 lbs. and am not out of breath that much. Improving everyday. I was in Walmart the other day and looked a bike. I need to do some exercise and have decided to get one. What kind of bike did you get?? I'm still heavy, 319, and am a little embarrassed to get help getting the right bike. I guess I'll just have to grin and bare it, but am excited to be doing something for my self.

It is my plan to buy one this summer. I wanted one last year but didn't go through with it. A great way to get the workout in and enjoy the weather when it's nice.

Last time I tried to ride a bike was unpleasant. I felt re-donkulous, little bike, big person. My husband had bought a "big girl seat" for me which made things slightly less uncomfortable. However, I noticed the bike tires looked flat. I got off to check and they were not flat, just flattened by my weight. Good times...

I hope that I will once again be able to ride bikes with my kiddos after surgery (fast approaching). Anyhow, congratulations, guess this is an nsv, yes?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
