Anyone else having trouble eating?

I couldn't wait to get to the puree phase, I had so many ideas for foods that would taste good pureed.

They taste good, in my head, but when I eat, most things taste almost spoiled. I know this is just my head playing tricks, but I can't get down more than a few bites. Lunchtime seems to be the easiest time to eat, for some reason.

After a few bites, besides the taste, I also get a stabbing pain in my middle back.

I've started drinking my Protein shakes again, they just feel easier. Eating seems like such work. I'm only getting about 10gms Protein from food and 52 gms from shakes. Nut wants me to get more from food, I'm trying, I'm sure it will get easier as time goes on, I am only 3 1/2 weeks out.

Any suggestions will be VERY appreciated.

I am having trouble understanding why your nutritionist is rushing you. Your sleeve does not seem ready to move forward, so I think it's great you are sticking mostly to shakes. That's what I had to do and many others on this website as well. We don't all heal at the same rate.

I'm not sure about the back pain.

I am 4 months out and I still get most of my Protein form shakes. You might be in Ketosis which is where food has a funky taste. Pdxman posted something about this a while back. You are doing fine right now so keep up the good work and keep ROCKIN that SLEEVE! ;)

I'm having the same exact issue...I'm 2 1/2 weeks out, and am trying to start the puree stage, but getting in food and Protein supplements and liquids is impossible, and it's getting me down. I also have a pain in the middle of my back! I thought it might be gas, or the way I slouch on my couch sometimes. Yesterday I managed to eat a little pureed chicken salad and two tiny bites of green Beans, but because I ate the food, I wasn't able to get my second Protein Drink in...so I only ended up with about 40 grams of protein. I like longer-life's advice about not advancing too quickly.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
