Men Versus Women

Recommended Posts

I have been lurking since January and I am scheduled for surgery on march 5th. I have been reading and trying to figure ut the post op process and it seems that men handle the recovery process better? I'm not saying we are stronger or mentally more capable to handle the process. I am just saying that I have not seen any of the "regret phase" or pain and sickness posts from any guys. Do you think there is anything to this?

That may be true. Let's see what the other guys have to say. I don't think I really had a regret phase and I think I'm recovering very well and rather quickly. It's almost like, hmm, are you sure you took majority of my stomach out feeling?

I'm sore but that's about it. We all have different pain tolerances. I'm sure you'll do fine.

Welcome to the board.

I think that is most likely because men are vastly outnumbered by women here, most men are less likely to post about complications bc they don't want to look like wimps, and women are more likely to seek support when they are struggling.

I have noticed that drom this and another website however I tend to agree with Bedhead, Men are either severly out numbered ,or perhaps allot of men would will not join these sites, I know of 3 men friends whom I told about these sites and it went in one ear and out the other. Maybe cause we dont stop and ask for directions lmao. I have been addicted to these sites as I have learned so much. Thanks to all That take the time to post,

Is it that men are out numbered or is it that they are less likely to share? This is an interesting topic. When it comes to reporting depression, women are more likely to seek help than men, or maybe those are the days in the past. It's a really good dilemma.

I really like hearing from men their experiences. ;)

I think men are probably more "it is what it is" in their approach. I think most women and men would agree that women are more open to expressing their feelings. I'm not so sure that the recovery process is handled better, just differently.

My wife, who just had the surgery three weeks ago, reminds me that she is handling the recovery amazingly, which I agree.

Thanks for the replies. I too think bedhead hit the nail on the head.

Does anyone know the stats on men versus women electing this surgery?

My husband, on many of occasion, has told me that he could "never had handled this surgery" if he would have had it. He says I was extremely "brave" to have had it. . . to me it's like "whatever" . . . yes you definately HAVE to be mentally prepared, more so mentally then physically I think. . . it takes alot of getting used to . . . I'm going into year 3 and there are still days. . . . . but less then more (thank goodness). . .but then of course, I'm different and an extremely tough nut to crack! hehehe

I'm a newbie...I was recently sleeved on 2/14/12. I do agree that this is about a lifestyle change. I'm still on my liquids phase for another week. I haven't had any issues with getting sick or feeling regret. When I was in the hospital after my surgery, I couldn't stand the site of "Broth" or really any feed for a day or two. I did manage to start drinking some "Boosts" and a milk or two....Now I'm losing about 2lbs a day, I'm looking forward to my "puree" stage of my diet...My wife is wondering how I'm doing it.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
