Ketosis, Ketogenic Diet And Seizures...

Recommended Posts

Ok, I have a question that may only apply to a few, but within the numbers on here some will be able to answer this.

A ketogenic diet is a diet with minimum carbs, moderate protien and the rest of your intake (a majority of your intake) is fats. This happens to be what alot of us are doing. It has long been known to prevent seizures in children. My question is have any of you seen a reduction of seizures, or narcoleptic tendencies, twitches, ADD, or even improvement in high functioning autism?

Curious and again if you can contribute please do.

Pookey, I'm replying so that I can see the responses. I'm interested, too. I'm a school counselor.

I can't believe I am seeing this.. For the past 7 months I have had epiletic-like activity. I have twitches and fasciculations, and while I was in the hospital I was very worried I may have made them worst because the left side of my head kept twitching... Anyway every day the twitches calmed down, I sort of thought it was the Milk of Mag I took, since Magnesium some times helps me.. I actually don't think I have twitched in 2 days, and I am more purple than Barney on the ketone strips.. But now that I read this I wonder..... Thanks for the info!!

Here are a few, one of them would have to be "purchased" in order to view in it's entirety - but your doc may already have a subscription.

Good luck and pretty please keep me posted!

I have no studies, but I can tell you this. Autistic children when free to choose their own diet will carb load. My cousins son lives on bread, french fries and ramen noodles. I know they have food aversions, but I guess it was much easier to let him eat. He is now a 15 year old with a 15 inch waist -- well not so bad, but close. I tried to talk my cousin into a high Protein, casein and gluten free diet, but I do know what work that is. There have been many successes with this. I would imagine that Aspies would do well on this.
