One Day Til My Sleeve!

Recommended Posts

My sleeve is Monday morning at 7:30am! It's Saturday night and I am feeling a mixture of emotions...excitement, relief, anxiety...I have read all the posts and I feeling that I have my eyes wide open. I am prepared for the worst, but praying for the best. :)

I am 2.5 weeks out. I recall that feeling. You are going to do wonderful. Drink tons of Water from now on and stay really low on the sodium (gatorade, ect.) from this point. Someone pointed that out to me and I believe that made all the difference in how much I swelled which in turn help with how sore I wasn't. I was obviously still in pain but I have had surgery before and never considered that and found this much easier swelling wise.

I will be praying for you.

Thank you! Since tomorrow is my final PRE-op day, I'm planning to follow your advice & drink lots of Water along with my shakes. At this point, I just want to get the surgery performed so I can "officially" get this journey started! :)

Yay for you - keep us posted!

You may want to check out any one of several mouth hydration sprays for post op. They simulate spit and are intended for people who for whatever reason cant keep their mouth as moist as it should be, but they work wonders after surgery.

Good luck to you! The first week can be rough- be sure to reach out to others who have gone through the experience. It helps to remind you that you are doing "normal" when you are feeling anything but! You will do great :)

Good luck to you!!!! I agree with someone above that the first week is a lil tough but after the first week for me it was a piece of cake! I am now 3 weeks out and if I could give you any advice it would be to walk, walk, walk, sip, sip, sip, get in your Protein and Vitamins when the dr allows.

Good luck! Stay positive and yes the first week is rough. I'm day 5 post op and I will admit I'm still in regret mode but everyday gets better. Whatever feelings you may have just know that you are not alone and you will be in a good place a couple of days or weeks. :)

You'll do great! I agree with everybody above the first week is tough, but I was never hungry. By the end of the second week I was feeling 100% and back to the gym like nothing happened. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Best wishes!

I went to Cancun, Mexico and had my sheeve done by Dr. Hector Perez on 1-9-12. Best decision I have ever made. Dr. Perez was wonderful and the hospital, Amerimed, was clean or cleaner that hospitals here in the US. The nursing staff was so professional. Sometimes the language was a little rough, but they did their best to communicate. The Dr. speeks perfect english. They put us up at the Westin Resort, a beautiful resort. Only thing wrong, I couldn't eat. The surgery went perfect, only 5 little slits in my stomach for the instruments. Left the hospital wednesday a.m. and stayed at the westin resort for 2 more days. Left Cancun on sunday a.m. and flew back to florida. Have had no problems. The only thing I can advise you is be careful of carbonated drinks. They kill me to this day. Have lost about 36 lbs and feel great. The whole cost to me was $8,100.00. That included my airfare, transportation, resort, hospital, and Dr.s cost. If I had wanted to have the procedure done at a clinic, I could have saved $1,000.00 but with my health problems, I opted for the hospital.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
