Thanks For The Help Family

Recommended Posts

Appreciate you all for the advice. I to have a high tolerance for pain, just a little nervous about the procedure, but I so need help with this struggle. I can use all the words of encouragement that my new VSG family can throw at me to keep me pumped for my day :D :D :D.

I was sleeved on 2/14. I have a high tolerance for pain also. The incision part of the procedure have given me no problems. No bruising, only slightly sore, I am getting around great. I have already logged 8 miles walked this week. My sleeve is extremely small though. It is a great struggle to get in the liquids. I have to carry a drink in my hand the entire time I am awake. I do expect it to get better over the next few days as the swelling goes down. Don't get me wrong, when I woke up I was in pain; but the team were on that like white on rice. They made sure I had everything I needed. Now, if you are like me, you are sick of hearing people say "sip, sip, sip" by now; but trust me, it is the truth. A sip is ALL you are going to get down at first. So, don't be surprised. Also something I haven't heard anyone talk about is the weight gain in the hospital. Expect to gain 10# in IV fluids and be grateful for every single one. This gives you a pad between you and dehydration. This way you can have a little time to get to feeling better. Don't worry about those scales at first, THOSE pounds are your friend. I haven't been out that long, so I can't give you much more. Just steel your constitution and you can make it. We will all be here if you need us.

I was sleeved on 2/7 and I have been doing great. I was also very nervous about the procedure, but I just kept reminding myself it is worth it to go through to be healthy. The nurse warned me that the first shot they gave me right before surgery causes anxiety and I am so glad she did or I would have thought I was having second thoughts. I was pretty nervous once I was in the operating room but had an awesome nurse who held my hand and comforted me until I was asleep. No matter how nervous you get just remember you have a whole team of people caring for you and keep thinking about the great benefits after you are healed. The days before my surgery, whenever I would get nervous, I would come on this forum and read some of the success stories. I can't tell you how much it helps to see people months or years down the road happy and healthy.

I am 11 days out and I am doing great getting in my liquids and Protein. I still have soreness at the largest incision, but I get around great and walk at least 1 mile every day. I can already say this was the right thing for me to do to help me get my life and body back on track. Best of luck to you in your journey!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
