For Those Who Love Soda...

Recommended Posts

I was a diet coke and coke zero addict BADLY. I was also type 2 diabetic as of August last year. There may be a link between the soda and of course it was genetic as my mother was diabetic in her 30's as well. Does anyone else drink the Sobe 0 cal waters and 0 cal Vitamin waters? I really like those

I WAS a sobe Water drinker until I read the label and discovered there are 6grams of carbs per serving....no thin q vedy moooch! I found skinny sport Water in goji black cherry and that has NO carbs at all. Would greatly appreciate if those of you who know your chemicals would look at skinnywater.com and tell me what I'm poisoning myself with now.

Thanks

Sleeve stretching aside-I just came across this article regarding sodas:

Diet-Soda Belly

It's not surprising that drinking all the sugar in sodas would cause weight gain, but what is surprising is that even diet soda will pack on the pounds: Researchers from the University of Texas Health Science Center monitored 475 adults for 10 years, and found that those who drank diet soda had a 70 percent increase in waist circumference over the 10-year study, compared with those who didn't drink any soda. Those who drank more than two diet sodas per day saw a 500 percent waist expansion! A separate study the same researchers conducted on mice suggested that it was the aspartame, which raised blood glucose levels, that caused the weight gain; when your liver encounters too much glucose, the excess is converted to body fat.

Also:

Researchers looked at people’s diet soda consumption between the years 2000 and 2002, and then screened them for type 2 diabetes between 2002 and 2007, People who drank at least one diet soda a day at the beginning of the study had a 67 percent higher relative risk of type 2 diabetes compared with the people who drank none. Zero-calorie soda also increased the risk of metabolic syndrome—a group of risk factors linked to obesity that increase your chances of heart disease, diabetes, and stroke—by 36 percent.

So even diet sodas have their problems

I heard that diet soda can also cause weight gain, but I didn't know why, Thank you for the information now I will have no problem letting diet soda go for good!

:D

Wait-a-minit...if its the sweetner in the soda causing the pblms, WHY do the docs ok crystal lite? That's also artificial sweetner.

Right? I totally agree but I think it is aspertame that is the culprit. All I know is that the sips and now gulps I have had have set me back so if you can be stronger than me don't even try it again.. Splenda does not make me crave salt and sugar.

I noticed crystal light just came out with a lemonade powder that has stevia, a natural rather than artificial sweetener.

I don't think it's about the calories or the stomach stretching as much as it is about the addiction. Diet or Regular I think it's a slippery slope for many of us (not all). I have known several people who went back to "just a sip or two", "I'll limit myself to one can a day" or whatever. It just gradually creeps back up.

I was sleeved 5 months ago and still battle with this almost everyday. Especially if I'm eating something I used to always have a Pepsi with (pizza, Chinese). Pepsi was sooo my go to comfort item. Almost daily I have the desire for just one! But I know me-and it might be just one today but it wouldn't take long for that one to become two and so on.

I also agree with the write above who said that even drinking diet soda was making her crave more sweets and carbs (that actually has been proven by MANY studies.

Everyone has to chose for themselves and maybe it would never be a problem for some (just like not everyone who drinks alcohol becomes an alcoholic), but if it was a problem before surgery-It will most likely be a problem after surgery if you start up again.

Sobe 0 calorie lifewater has 3g per serving. In one bottle, there is 2.5 servings. So about 7.5 g of carb per full sobe Water 0 calories. Not sure about the full calorie sobe waters.

The calories don't count and not all flavors have the same amt of carbs. The 0 cal SoBe has carbs varying from 3 to 6 grams pr serving. We drink several bottles a day. The carbs do become an issue, imho.

I just drink the ones with 3g per serving. I can see how drinking many bottles can cause an issue. I only drink one a day. I can see what you're saying. I am very picky and just drink the ones with 3g per serving.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
