For Those Who Love Soda...

Has anyone found anything that satisfies them like a good bubbly soda does but doesnt ruin/stretch their sleeve? I used to drink diet coke as if it were water/going out of style. I have been craving a soda for days. Any answers?

Try Mio drops in your Water. IMO the orange tangerine tastes just like sunkist.

crystal light is my drink of choice now..also found out it was easier to quit the soda if I didn't allow it in my home. no bottles..no cases...no emergency stashes of it like I used to. I haven't had one since Thanksgiving...was sleeved Jan 12.

I know we were told not to, but I still drink soda. I don't find that I can eat more, it doesn't bother my stomach anymore, and I'm still losing weight (13.5 months out). Personally, I did this surgery so that I wouldn't have to give things up, and I find things in moderation work for me.

I gave up Pepsi when I started this journey. I know that if I took even one sip I would be back to the 44ouncers in no time!

I wish I could find a good substitute. To make it worse I can't tolerate any artificial sweeteners so no Crystal Light or MIO or flavored waters or sports Water. No sucralose, no Stevia, no Truvia, no Aspartame. Just plain old Water. I know that around the world many people drink nothing but water their entire lives, but I'm so bored with it. Today I "splurged" and had 8oz of lemonade. But that is over 100 calories!! I know that I am flirting with dehydration, but even 3 months out, i just can't force myself to drink even 48 oz of water a day. I do try and get in 16oz of skim milk and 8oz of juice along with my water, but I just get so tired of plain water.

I have even started buying different brands so that it seems like a different beverage.

I admit I really miss my diet Dr. Pepper. :( I didn't even drink it every day, but sometimes you just crave some bubbles. Oh well.....

Hi there....I was a self labeled diet coke and coke zero-aholic....lol. Since my surgery 11 months ago, I yearn for coke but find that the taste of the fizz and carbonation does the trick for me,,,,, so I don't deny myself...I will buy one and take a few sips and that's all I really need or want...it's the darnest thing....I could buy a six pack and it would last me six weeks...so don't bother anymore...if I have the craving, I go through a drive through and get a small drink....and I rarely finish it. I am saving much money on this.....lol

Let sit soda sit over night and it will go flat...that's what the Dr told me.

My doctor told me that if I can tolerate it, I can have it, in moderation as long as its diet and most of my Fluid is of course still Water. I think everyone's rules are different, but it doesn't "ruin" your sleeve the way it messes thing up with a bypass.

mayo clinic (& other, recent studies) say that drinking diet soda INCREASES RISK OF OBESITY so I think that's the reason the carbonation is forbidden...not just diet soda but seltzer, too.

Well, i'm going into my 3rd year and let me tell you if soda stretches/ruins the sleeve then my doctor did a damn good job of sewing it together cause nothing has stretched or gotten ruined here. . . I love my soda and always have. . . it's a good idea to kind sip it slowly of course and let it go down all the way, but hey stretching and ruining isn't going to happen. . cause it doesn't just stop, it keeps going down. . . good luck!

While many on here will say you can not drink it, I still drink diet soda in moderation. I used to drink it regularily and very quickly. Since surgery I still consume diet soda, however it takes a long while to go down and is not a drink I crave anymore. I have been surprised by how my tastes have changed/evolved since surgery, my body actively craves the things that are good for them. This may also be due to the fact that I do not exclude anything specific from my diet (everything in moderation, soda is one of these things)

I haven't had a diet soda after being pretty hooked for all of my adult life in a month and I don't miss it at all. I have been drinking Mio and crystal lite and I really like the Sobe waters that are zero calorie. I will probably never touch a soda again because I know how addicted I was. It would be like me picking up my cigarette habit again.

I'm back to drinking my diet A&W, but only maybe 8-10 oz a day not 32+ oz like I use to. I drink it very slowly and keep the cap of the bottle so it's not as fizzy. I can't drink the Crystal Light or the Water drops they give me really bad acid reflux although I am on a PPI. I think it's the artificial flavorings. I also started drinking herbal teas on ice to take the place of the soda.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
