Atkins After Sleeve...please Give Me Your Opinion.

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I could really use your input. I got sleeved 10 months ago and I've lost a total of 55 lbs and slid back and gained 5 pounds December. I've been working on my food intake and not drinking fluids with my food and that has helped. I was thinking of getting on the Atkins program to kick start my system and get me going again. I'd done the program 10 years ago and had great success and lost 85 pounds. Has anyone done this program after being sleeved? I apprciate any input from you.

Yes, I am having to diet now that I've lost 175 pounds, and excersize my fool head off too. I know it's best for me but I was hoping to not have to work so hard to keep losing the last 20 or so. It's getting tougher and tougher to lose more. I basically do an Atkins like, low carb higher Protein diet.

Thanks Rootman, I think I will do the same. I've got about 50 more to go to reach my goal. I've been on the Atkins site and read up on the program to get the basics. I'm going to get the things I'll need to get started and go from there. Thank you for responding. I always like reading your posts to folks.

I was wondering about Atkins also, but i am wondering if that requires too much fat, ie, bacon, etc?

Keep in mind the Water guidelines on Atkins. 64oz base plus an additional 8oz per 25# of excess weight. I think that's the current recommendation (it used to be half your body weight in oz of water). Also much sure you don't exceed your target Protein intake by a lot for a sustained period. Even Protein will store as fat if you're getting too much of it.

Otherwise, it's just following a standard post-op diet of 60 - 70gm protein, protein first.

Main difference is that on Atkins, the MORE fat/protein you eat, the better. Obviously sleeve will reduce that.

I did a modified Atkins induction for about 2 years. Lots a ton of weight. No more than 20g carbs per day regardless of source. On sleeve portions, that would probably be... 5g?

Atkins fats don't have to come from meat. Olive oil is a great fat. I used to mix it into my tuna salad (always looking for ways to up the healthy fat content on Atkins).

Thanks Sleeve Guru,

You bring up a good point about adding olive oil to tuna; I would never think to do that. I'm reading up on it and signed up on the Atkins site and looking at their form for information. I've also been working on my menu and stuff before I start.

I've been sleeved for 10 months and lost only 50 pounds and considered overweight via BMI standards. I went from 225 to 175. I've not been able to drop anymore and feeling very discouraged and disappointed. I want to shed off another 50 pounds to get to 125.

I'm so glad you posted how much Protein to get in. I'd forgotten just how much that was. I'm feeling kind of lost I guess, not really fitting in anywhere. Thank you for your insight.

If anyone out there wants to be a buddy on Atkins I'd love the support.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
