Lilee84 648 Posted February 17, 2012 It's bad enough when something isn't sitting right in your sleeve. It's worse when it makes you puke. It's another thing entirely when your well meaning coworker goes and tells your boss you need to go home, even after you've reassured them repeatedly you're not sick and these things sometimes happen and told them repeatedly NOT to go tell your boss. It's humiliating when your boss comes over and orders you to leave because of said puking. Seriously people?! If I say I'm fine, I'm fine! It happens, I'm not sick, it's not contagious! KellyL 173 Posted February 17, 2012 Yeah, so true, because this could happen off and on for a while til you adjust. I would have a private convo with the boss about the side effects and issues of your surgery so they will know this is somewhat normal and part of it. I don't know about there, but here and across many states, the Flu is going around, and I mean it's the worse flu we've had in a long time. If it's going on there, they may be paranoid that is the reason you're sick. And they don't want to catch it. Educating the boss and also letting them know you don't have any of the other symptoms of the Flu might help.
Less of Leslie 90 Posted February 17, 2012 Does your boss know about the WLS? If not, are you comfortable telling them? I finally told my boss because sometimes we have to chow our food for lunch because we don't have time. I told her, "Look, I NEED at LEAST 30 minutes for my lunch and this is why". No problems since. Catracks 865 Posted February 17, 2012 What the hell does she do? follow you into the bathroom? 1 Amanda 3.0 reacted to this
Lilee84 648 Posted February 17, 2012 Yeah my boss is aware of the surgery - she's like a 2nd mom to me, and she's totally supportive so once I explained that I probably just ate too fast or didn't chew well enough and it got stuck and had to come up, she was fine. Of course, this was after half of my coworkers saw her storm over to my desk and tell me to leave. She felt my head to make sure I didn't have a fever and let me stay, but when I politely asked my coworker to respect my wishes and NOT tell my boss should something like this ever happen again, he said he wouldn't and that he was going to tell... WTF dude?! If I need to go home, I'll leave! But a little puking because something didn't sit right does not justify me losing $100 in pay!
Lilee84 648 Posted February 17, 2012 What the hell does she do? follow you into the bathroom? I puked into my trash at my desk - I wasn't gonna make it to the bathroom.
stogger 1 Posted February 17, 2012 in the hospital I puked after that swallow test, and all I could think was NEVER again...it was so uncomfortable...I hope I don't got through what you are going through...It is a tough situation - especially for people who did not disclose to anyone what the surgery was for...maybe speaking to your boss privately would be helpful. I know it would not work with my boss - she's has no soul. I just plan to do what ever I can to avoid upchuck city - heaven help me when the plan fails...oy.... circa 333 Posted February 17, 2012 If he's within eye or earshot, I can understand his uncomfortableness. I would NOT want to be around someone barfing in a garbage can. However, the whole running to the boss thing at the drop of a hat tells me what a ninny this guy really is. If it happened repeatedly, yeah, I would say something. No one wants to be around someone up-chucking in a trash can all the time. But once? Geesh, what a nancy. What if you were pregnant and had morning sickness? would he be the same way? 2 Amanda 3.0 and rahnava reacted to this

I didn't even make any noise when I did it, he happened to see me spin around in my chair real quick and grab the can. And when I heard him say he was going to get her I said I'm fine. Ugh! I just don't get some people 1 Crississippi reacted to this
Rootman 1,101 Posted February 17, 2012 Well I'm going to play devil's advocate here. YES, the barfing may very well have been the result of a reaction to your WLS, but there is no way that anyone else can possibly know that. We lose a LOT of man hours here from well intentioned people coming to work sick and infecting other healthy people. For the most part people need to understand that if you're sick - STAY HOME. And there is no way FOR SURE for anyone else to know if you're sick or just having a bad reaction. So better safe than sorry. I suspect the boss was trying to protect everyone. There is also the fact that no one want to see someone else barf, especially into their waste basket. It is unfair to to others to be forced to watch you puke or have to sit near a trash can with puke in it. Sorry, I believe they are well meaning. 1 Vance_ reacted to this
100%Sleeved 148 Posted February 17, 2012 Wow you have a cool boss. I once worked for a company that said the only way you can go home sick is if you were leaving on a stretcher literally.
E-girl 98 Posted February 23, 2012 I have to agree with Sleeve Master. Your boss probably doesn't have a choice but sent you home. Employees can file a complaint about work condition not being sanitary. I can understand the employee not wanting you to stay in the office especially when it cannot be confirmed by the employee that this is a result of the sleeve and not a true illness.
