I had major issues with high blood pressure prior to surgery. Neurosurgeons worried about strokes etc.. now I am facing the opposite issue. I no longer take blood pressure medicines for months now. My blood pressure has dropped drastically, to the point where I have a hard time getting the energy to even get out of bed or do anything. The doctor is aware, and just recently did some blood work, I go in to have a bp work up (whatever that is) and an ekg. My blood pressure also drops if I get up, even if I take it slow. Sooo, I take things extra slow. It's averaging out 90/60 with a heartrate of 108 which is usually in the 60's 70's. The lowest one at the doctors office was 88/56 heartrate 104. They didn't let me go till it went up, thankfully a crying baby helped. LOL No pun.

Is anyone else having this issue? Anything I can do myself to fix this?

I don't have help, but I'm having the same issue. I'm off my bp meds and feel strange every time I stand up. Mine is very low now and has been since right after surgery.

Maybe walk around witha team of crying babies and nagging mothers-in-law all day to perk you up and raise your bp? JK!! I don't know, but I wish you luck on this!

I'm a little envious. I have a family history of BP and had elevated BP even when I was skinny and running marathons, so I highly doubt I will be able to get off my meds. I'm nearly in the "normal" weight category now, and my BP shows no signs of going down on its own.

have they advised taking in more sodium? I'd ask first, but sometimes that will help.

Wow - I've never had an issue with HBP. My normal bp before i got sick, even through most of getting sick was 90/60 with a resting heart rate of 53 (I was a runner and had no issues, so it wasn't ever a concern)

With all the weight I gained, I actually have "normal" BP. I didn't ever have any issues with a drastic drop in BP when I stood or anything, however, when I first saw new doctors, they would always test me Addison's disease (thyroid insufficiency) - which oddly, I do have now. - they also tested my B12, which can cause it as well as dehydration. Make sure to drink lots of fluids - as many as you can. Check your B12 levels - you may be deficient after surgery and need a supplement.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
