Recommended Posts

So since surgery my sleeve has felt really tight and full like. It's not making me vomit or anything when I eat, just feels uncomfortable. Anyone else have this?

I was sleeved on feb 8th 2012. I am on full liquids so im basically drinking Protein Shakes, Tomato Soup, and a little bit of yogurt with no chunks. I am eating 1/2 cup at a time every 2-3 hrs.

Your stomach is still probably swollen from the surgery. As it heals over time, it should loosen up. The time it takes to heal is a part of the dramatic weight loss period and hence why you start with liquids and progress to solids slowly.

That just sounds like way too much, at this time. I'm two months out, and can't eat a 1/2 cup. Try to slow down, and try just 1/4 cup for now, and see if it still feels tight. Good luck to you.

Sleeved 12/12/11

beginning weight 260

today 215

-45

I was sleeved on 2/6 and I ate two bites of soft scrambled egg this morning and was totally full. Last night I had 1/2 oz of baby food peaches and was full. I can't imagine 1/2 cup servings right now, I think I would die!

Yes, the 1/2 cup is a bit much - 8 oz. to a measuring cup so that is 4 oz. switch to about an ounce at a time and see if that helps. If it does you know it is the serving size. Good luck.

If you are feeling too tight I could definately consider it, I can get in about 2 oz almost 6 weeks out just about every 45 minutes if I do regular small swallows. Beyond that I get the burps and I can even get a kind of spazy feeling in my stomach like little jerks - and it can push it through too fast also. If I sat and drank 4 oz I would be way too uncomfortable.

1 oz is a snooch less than 30 cc. Our stomachs were generally reduced to 50cc-65cc and possibly a little more. So 2 oz exceeds alot of peoples pouches. if you have a 90cc pouch you could just hold 3 oz. Liquids pass which is why we can consume faster, but for some, especially for the first few or even several weeks, you would be better to treat liquids just like anything else.

Have you ever cut yourself and left a very clean, deep gash? If you did do you recall the way it raised up and swelled? That is what our stomachs are doing now, except it is doing it in a very acidic environment and it wasnt just cut, it was pushed around and tugged on and cauterized. It is going to take time. Be careful not to irritate it anymore than it probably already is.

Okay sleevers chime in, I want to be sure I gave good measurements!

Michelle, YES I know the feeling. I can only have about 3-4 tsp of plain fat free yogurt over an hr time span and even that makes me hurt. It feels like when I was pregnant and ate too much and there would be a ton of pressure up on your rib cage. Not comfortable at all. I was sleeved on the 13th so if you were on the 8th that tells me it'll be a few weeks before that discomfort goes away (when the swelling goes down hopefully). ugh

Thanks for everyone's input! I am just confused by the serving sizes because in the hospital, I had to be able to do 1 oz of liquid every 15 mins before they would even let me leave! The guidelines I was given was 1/2-2/3 cup every 2-3 hours. It doesnt really seem to matter how small the portion is or even if I eat at all, still feels tight. I am hoping that this is just a part of the healing process and hope it feels better soon. VsgMary, that is exactly how it feels! Glad I am not alone in this.:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
