Last weekend plus i was really nauscious/sick just not doing great, couldn't hold down even Water, Couldn't hold meds down (not related to sleeve)

DH and i finally went to er - blood work etc. - kept me for 2 more nights. Electrolytes were totally messed up. I had a bunch of those tests, Upper GI,xrays, drinking that horrible junk while while being able to "watch the interior of my stomach, pretty cool.

Home/now woke up w/lousy cold - as opposed to a good cold?

Just wanted to tell you.

I also feel pretty guilty talking about what was a litte sick me, and not serious where we know others have dealt wigh more "substantial" problems, having a leak etc.

Oh well, just wanted to unload and share - btw for anyone that doesn't know hospitals are really a drag, being sick and all, YEACH

best wishes

Sorry you were sick, dehydration in itself can make you nauseous. I'm glad you're home now and back to posting. I hope it helped and you're feeling better.

I was just in the ER yesterday too for dehydration, although I didn't know it at the time. I had been getting headaches every day this week and yesterday I had the biggest Migraine EVER. I was so desperate for relief that I went to the ER and they found that I was dehydrated causing the migraine and headaches and also a bladder infection.

I'm making sure I get my fluids in now!!! And I hope you feel better!!!! I haven't had a cold yet but I'm sure when I do I'll be a whiny baby too :)

BTW

after all, my above story, not that i wanted to be sick/nauseous obivously - but when i came i actually had gained 6 lbs.

I know it might have been from the contents from ringers on the iv pole - that way i don't get too upset. I'm sure this will pass and i'll be back to losing in no time. Then, you'll see less of me!

OMG Kathy!! I was at Upstate on Mon-Tues! I had a bad infection and my electrolytes were all wonky from being dehydrated too.

It's so funny bc Dr. Simon told me that he had another sleeve patient there that was 2 months out and having troubles- I wonder now if that was you!

I stayed on 5a room 6!

hi bedhead, - strong possibility that i could have been in a room near me - don't remember the room #, i will try and look it up, sounds interesting we might have been at SUNY when you were there.

whats the infection you had - all better now i hope. Any comment about your electrolites, did they get them in order? every thing else going well i hope.

curious on your opinions on the younger residents and nurses. Just wondering there service etc .

actually since i've been home, i still am not feeling well with my whole drinking of problm. i feel again. i'm going on the road towards dehydration again - i don't understand why, but i seem like have a lot of trouble geting all my liquid (H20) I really don't want to end up at the SUNY Hotel again

they continuelly stuffed me with various Vitamins, magnisium i mean, phosforus (msp) at thed hospitaland some say that stuff could help you gain weight. I'm trying to reasure myself that this is rational - i don't want to think i actually gained 6 lbs like i did, doing every properly, even througing up - throwing up dictionary - Webster new addition Then i get on the scale instead of not losing, or even remaining the same weight, I gained 6 lbs. not to cool

Under most situations, i wouldn't be too upset about a little weight gain or no loss - but to have gained weight, thats beyound my understanding.

I am raising my right hand that # i swear I will promise to drink, and drink more liquids. Cold is now on overtime from 24 hr flu to maybe at least 48 hours.

Oh well, nice to hear from you Bedhead

best wishes

kathy

Kathy- My opinion of SUNY Upstate is not a good one. The emergency room was wonderful. I was treated like a had a serious medical condition. I had a constant rotation of doctors and nurses and specialists who wasted no time in getting me in for xrays, CT scans, and the upper GI.

But the floor is a totally different story. I had one floor doctor (NOT Dr. Simon or his PA, just one of the doctors that does rounds on the floor) come in asking me all sorts of questions about nausea. I couldn't understand what she was getting at. Then she asked me how many times I had vomited. I just looked at her and was like "WTF??" I responded that I hadn't vomited AT ALL and I could not understand her line of questioning since the only time I had real nausea was when I was forced to drink 18oz of contrast dye/apple juice. I never saw the same rotating doctor/resident more than 1-2 times, and I was CONSTANTLY having to re-explain the reason I was there- which they would have known had they stopped for a moment to take a glance at my chart.

I had to be a big advocate for myself because many times I was asked to do something or eat something that is directly against Dr. Simon's program. It was extremely frustrating- not to mention the fact that I had a shared room and I heard every single word about the health care of the woman in the bed next to me. I knew all about her colon cancer, her bowel habits, her blood work results, etc without ever having to say a single word to her. Those shared rooms are a HUGE HIPPA violation. And don't even get me started on how loud all of the doctors and nurses are at night.

It was Hell on Earth compared to my surgery, which I had at Community General Hospital. I had a huge, spatious private room with a private bathroom and huge walk-in shower with granite and marble! It was like a day at the spa compared to Upstate (even though Upstate now owns CGH!)

I'm so sorry you girls have had problems. As far as dehydration goes, I get concerned for me, too. I find it very hard to drink all that liquid. I just know I need to keep a bottle of Water w me at all times and sip, sip, sip.

Good luck.. I am also experiencing dehydration, plus occassional vomiting. I was hospitalized 10 days after surgery. My doctor on Thursday put be back on a liquid diet for a week, maybe two. He said if I cant get 80 oz of Fluid I have no business eating. About a week ago I also started experiencing headaches and now it has progessed to dizziness. It really has been a hard journey.

Decided to join a vertical sleeve blog and was thrilled to find one with Dr Simon/SUNY patients. I have my sleeve surgery in 9 days at Com. General, happy and anxious at the same time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
