Hi everyone! I am fairly new to this forum and finally decided to make a post! I was originally planning on having lapband surgery and have now decided that I am going to go through with the sleeve instead. I have learned so much through this forum and really appreciate how much information everyone gives!!

Anyways, to my topic... So I recently was informed that I was allowed to use either Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig as proof of completing a 6 month supervised diet as long as it was within the last 2 years.

I did have my stamps from Weight watchers for April of 2010 through September 2010 which thank god came out to exactly 6 months. The question I had is one of my forms also states that you need 2 physician visits during the time you were on weight watchers. I don't have that. BUT I have will have 2 current physicians visits in March since I had begun my 6 month supervised diet.

Just wondering what your thoughts are about how this will affect my insurance decision. I know that technically I am not going to be providing them with the two visits during the weight watchers time period like they are asking but just wondering if anyone has gone through a similar situation and been approved.

I will be providing all of their requirements which are: 6 month physician supervisied diet, psych eval, over 40 bmi without comorbidities. I have UHC Choice Plus

It is confusing because I have 3 different sheets of paper listing the requirements and only one of them mentions the 2 visits during the 6 months. hmmm.... Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience or any advice is welcome!!!

Thanks!

Did you go to the dr. at all during that time you were on Weight Watchers and your Dr weighed you? If so I would think that would count since you were at the dr and they have the records of you weight during those visits if you went.

Good luck! My insurance waived the visits for weight loss but the local bariatric program still requires them. They also don't need two years of weight loss event like they used to. I have my own personal weight records though going back to 2007 due to dieting on my own and trying to loose.

Hi everyone! Just wanted to update my topic. I was APPROVED with my 6 months of Weight Watchers proof. They accepted that as my 6 month supervised diet. So to anyone out there wondering if they should give it a shot ( I'm sure it depends on your insurance)....I say go for it! Worst they can say is no and then you do your 6 months!

Just in case anyone is wondering I have United Healtcare Choice Plus.

How long did it take to get your approval after all documents were submitted to United Healthcare?

Good luck with all your pre-ops and your upcoming surgery!!!

I was extremely lucky when it came to getting approved. My surgeons office submitted the paperwork on a Thursday afternoon and I got a call that i was approved the very next day. :)

I'm not sure if this is common, but I know I've heard uhc is pretty good about getting back quicker than a lot of other insurances.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
