I have been a forensic scientist for 12 years now and I am the only girl in my department (firearms) so I have used the screenname for years. It fits me! I still love all things forensic. I just changed the spelling a bit for fun.

My name is Tammi and one year we had a Tammy as a secretary so they renamed us Tammi Guns and Tammy Roses. I was called Tammiguns for a long time (kind of like tommygun) I hated it and I much prefer forensikchic. lol.

My kids named me after a cartoon Nurse( animaniacs) The little guys in the cartoon use to say" Hello Nurse" every time the sexy nurse walked in the room ;-)

This was of course a few years ago when I was turning heads, Ha!

But...... I am gonna get there again, really soon!!

I have changed my name a couple of times since I signed up for this board. My old name MickeyMouse50 represents my real given name of Mickey and of course all my life people have called me Mickey Mouse. In fact on the phone when I give my name I say "Mickey, like the mouse" and they usually get it right instead of writing down Nicki or Vicki. :) And 50 is my age.

My new name comes from something I read today that really struck me in the core of my heart and is what I am seeking to do with my surgery and that is to liberate myself and let my light fully shine. Here is the quote I took from someone else's comments:

OUR DEEPEST FEAR IS NOT THAT WE ARE INADEQUATE

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkenss, that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, who am I to be

brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.

Your playing small doesn't serve the world.

There's nothing Enlightened about shrinking so that

Other people won't feel insecure around you.

We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within

us.

It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously

Give other people permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our fear,

Our presence automatically liberates others.

Yeah, I was a dork about my name. Lyra is both the plucky character in "The Amber Spyglass" novels, but is also a derivative of the musical instrument the Lyre. I absolutely adore music. I'm always singing and dancing around. Canto is a clearly deliniated part of a long poem, typically poems that told stories that were often sung or chanted back in the day. This is a part of my life heralding a major change, so it seemed apropo. Basically it just means, "Lyra's Song".

Amanda is my first name and the number 131 signified the distance 13.1 miles. When I started my sleeve journey I had an deep-rooted goal to run a half marathon (13.1 miles). I felt being able to complete a 1/2 marathon would be the height of healthy. Amanda131 was born. I am thrilled to report that I completed that half-marathon January 29th. I may need to change my name to Amanda262 as the full marathon is next on my to-do list. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
