Two Long-Term Dreams Fulfilled In One Week!

Recommended Posts

Hello Sleeve Friends,

Like everyone else, when I began my WLS journey, I had several goals in mind other than just reaching a certain number on the scale. This week I attained two of them that are very dear to my heart!

First of all, as of today I weigh less than my perpetually fit husband. We are nearly the same height (5' 8"/9") and when we first met in the mid 1970['s, he weighed 165 and I weighed 135. Over the years, my weight crept up and up while his remained just the same. By the time I started my pre-op diet, I outweighed him by 65 pounds. Today I am wearing size medium clothes and we look like we "match" again - a real dream come true.

Secondly, I am once again wearing my original wedding ring, which I had to put away about 15 years ago because it no longer fit. I hope and expect that I will never again have to take it off due to "fat finger syndrome".

All of the years that I have struggled with my weight, my sweet husband has been supportive and kind. This has continued throughout my surgery and recovery. Now he is reaping some of the benefits of his kindness and patience, as we two 60-somethings are acting a little like teenagers again. (Hope that doesn't gross any of you out! :))

These two dreams-come-true are making today a very special Valentine's Day for me.

Best wishes to you all,

Bonnie

It most certainly does not gross me out, it totally delights me. It's reading posts like this that keep me on track and eagerly awaiting my own surgery. I too had a wonderful valentines day with the love of my life. We have been together for 33 years and married for 30 of them. He has always been by my side whatever size I have been and we both are hoping for similar results to yours (although I have way more poundage to lose) Enjoy your golden years, especially those 'teenage' moments. You have worked hard for them and can now share so much more together.

That is really sweet. I have always liked bigger guys mainly because we "fit". Now my options are limitless. However my BF is a small guy that has 0% body fat...please still say we fit. I love that.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
