I have had two fills to date. I received my second fill just yesterday. My doctor IS aggressive. I have a 10cc band. My first fill was 4cc. Yesterday I received 2 more making my total 6cc. I have a friend who received his 10cc band 2 years ago. He is just now up to 6cc in his band.

I think everyone is different. I had some restriction with 4cc but not much. Tomorrow I will start solids and find out how much restriction I have with my new fill level. I, too, know it is not a race, but being self pay, I would rather push up the learning curve to adapt to my fill levels rather than creep up on ideal restriction.

I had actually used those words, give me an aggressive fill, on top of that, I went in the evening when I can typically eat more verses my normal morning appointment when I am more restricted. I had the aggressive fill and it is the worst I have ever felt. When you are gagging on your on saliva you know you have had too much. I couldn't even sleep because I was gagging on my own spit. I tried to stick it out thinking in a couple of days the swelling would go down and I would be fine. The weight was really falling off too, like 8 pounds in 5 days. After about 7 days of misery I went back and had some taken out. It was one of the happiest days of my life. I sucked down 3 bottles of Water, a huge cup of coffee and a bowl of chilli. Don't miss inteprete this, I am thankful every day for my band. It is a true blessing. Just be careful what you ask for.

I think I know what "aggressive" means now. I just had my first fill (second really, since 1cc was put into my 4cc band at the time of surgery). The doc said he would only put in .5cc to bring me to 1.5cc, then when he stuck the needle in, he changed his mind and put in 1cc for a total of 2cc. I drank too fast when they tested me afterwards. I was in pain. I tried again 30 minutes later and still had a golfball feeling just from drinking Water (really slowly this time), so the doctor took out .5cc and I'm now at 1.5 cc which is so much better. With the 2cc, I could feel myself swallowing saliva. I think I'll be taking my fills in small increments from here on :scalesno:!

Thanks, everyone, for sharing your experience. I'm up to 1.9 cc in a 4 cc band (3 separate fills), and just barely feel the restriction. Still not losing any weight (though some of that is bad habits I need to break regardless). I get frustrated and wish sometimes the doctor would be more aggressive with the fills, then read the awful stories of what can happen if it goes to far...I live a 3 hour drive away from the doctor, so it would be a long drive to get an unfill - there's no docs that I know of that do fills/unfills in my County.

After the last fill, when I went up 1.9 cc's, the next day I "tested" it (my doc only requires liquids/mushies for one day, then you can go back to solids - just start carefully). The day after the fill I prepared brown rice and pinto Beans, mixed together, with a little avocado, feta cheese and soy sauce - that probably sounds weird to most people, but I love it. I was able to eat over 1.5 cups at a sitting, with no liquids, and still didn't feel quite full.

So, am going in for another fill on Monday, just two weeks after the last fill. Will let you know what happens....

Julie

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
