My surgery is scheduled for April 7th and I'm starting to get cold feet. I'm only 18 and I want this surgery to be successful more than anything, but every time I think about it, I get scared and upset. If im already nervous now, I have no idea how I will react the day of surgery. Has anyone else gone through this before surgery? What helped you overcome the "cold feet"? Also, does being young give me a more advantage and less likely to have problems such as leaks or infections?

Hi,

We all struggle with anxiety about having this surgery, or any surgery for that matter. I think it's rather natural to be nervous. I would just weight the pros and cons of having the surgery. Also make sure you have researched and are prepared for all the adjustments to make in your lifestyle. I think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages by a long shot.

I don't think age has anything to do with whether we get a leak or not. I have never heard of it having anything to do with it.

Good luck!!

My main trigger is being on this low carb pre op diet made me realize that I dont really need the surgery but I am still gonna have it because I dont wanna starve all the time like I have been these past couple of weeks.

Try this do a pre op diet with full liquids for 2 weeks just besure to watch your carbs and keep them under 60grams. Fats dont matter in fact you may want to take a Omega 6-3 Vitamin complex daily. Just give it a try as best as you can. It will give you a glimmer of hope. Read up on Ketosis dieting. Buy yourself some lowcarb cookbooks from Amazon. Buy yourself some shaker bottles for Protein shakes. Look at it as an investment in your life. I will never lead you wrong. Please just give it ago. Hint: for me it was best to down a bottle of Water first thing in the am then alternate with a Protein shake every hour on the hour. You have to do it this way atleast for the first 4 days. Your going to have a terrible taste in your mouth on day 3 because your burning your own.

You can do this!! We all get some version of cold feet. I am now 3 weeks out and about 4 days before my surgery I almost called and cancelled! I was freaking out,I was afraid of not waking up and leaving my 4 babies behind. All the fears that come with it I had. I had to weigh out the pros and cons, get on VST and read everyone's encouraging stories, look at before and after pics, and just think about what a better life I wanted. Yes there is a (slim) risk of complications, there is with any surgery. But once you go ahead with it,then you are on the road to recovery and a healthier you. Trust me,you won't regret it!!! Here's an idea, make a list of all the things you are looking forward to after your sleeve. Heck post it here!! =) Make a list of all the things you hate most about being overweight, the way it feels, the negatives that come along with it. Make a list of goals, small and big. It will be a for sure picker upper to think about being able to wear a bikini to the pool or fitting in a pair of size 8 jeans. You are only 18,you have your whole life ahead of you!! ((HUGS))

It's not uncommon to be incredibly nervous prior to a major surgery. At eighteen, I doubt you've had a lot of experience with this.

You really will be fine. It's a scary thing but so incredibly worth it. I wish that I'd had this surgery when I was eighteen, instead of just before I turned thirty!

Age shouldn't affect your surgical outcome but you might bounce back faster post op just because you're younger. Everyone is different! I only had one really rough day post op. I was uncomfortable for a while but I don't even think I took pain pills for a week.

It's a huge decision and it's going to change your entire life. Trust your surgeon to take care of you and follow his/her guidelines to avoid complications.

Best of luck. You're going to do just fine.

I know how you feel about anxiety. I suffered with anxiety and panic attacks for years and I still struggle with it on occasion. The best thing to do is to prepare yourself with knowledge. I know you will do great!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
