Any May Sleevers Yet?

Recommended Posts

How is everyone doing? I am getting excited now. Kind of wish it was next week I was having surgery instead of May 10th. Time seems to be going slowly.

Just can't wait to move on with this new chapter of my life!

Bought some chicken stock today & some cream Soups for pre-op & post-op.

You know the only thing I am nervous about? That it will be hard to sip liquids without gulping them! I am so used to gulping down Water I tried sipping it is hard for me & very tiresome! LOL

Also worried how I will take my pills post-op as I gulp Water to get them down & don't think they will taste good crushed up in a drink!

I bought Vitamins that are chewable, but still have pills for mental health issues that I cannot get chewable or in liquid form!

I am sure it will all fall into place afterwards though & just become 2nd nature. But right now, it is those little things I am worrying about!

I really recommend practicing those little sips.. You will be forced to after surgery, but I do think it's helpful to get the practice in first.

Also, if you haven't given up coffee yet, now's the time! It's better to get that headache out of the way per-op so you have less to deal with afterwards.

Yep, gave up the coffee & my diet soda (coke zero to be specific) habit already. So proud of myself for that. Been about 5 weeks now! Just drink Water with very occasional Gatorade G2 or milk. But mainly Water.< /p>

Have to work on the sipping thing though, I know I will need to do that post-op!

I cant give up my morning coffee just yet...ugh!! its going to be so hard. Maybe I will try to do the half caf rather than cold turkey. (i'm up and out of bed by 4:30. at work by 6). And yes, trying to work on sipping...I'm a chugger also!

The way I am getting use to sipping is by using a spoon. I know sounds silly but hey it works. Its a lot easier on the Protein Shakes.< /p>

two more days and i will be two weeks away i'm getting real excited too... Been starting to get a small coffee instead of a large and hoping in a week to cut myself off.. it's soo hard.. i have been a lifelong everyday coffee drinker :)

I started taking my powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury shakes and they taste fabulous.. i tried chocolate the last two days and oh my they are so chocolatey!!! I hope they taste just as yummy after surgery. I've been doing sorta bad at dinner time ... it's hard when the hubby makes great dinners. Also been trying to get into the habit of using myfitnesspal again.. thanks janneth for all your motivation.. it really does help to see what you put down...

Well time to go make sure the kido's are getting to bed!!

I am scheduled with Dr. Aceves on May 11 but I am so confused right now. I am going to post about my confusion under the general board and see what kind of responses I get. I was all set and ready to go but this past weekend my American bariatric doc scared the **** out of me so now I am wondering if I am making the right decision.

Please don't let an American doctor scare you!

My primary care physician scared me quite a bit too... saying how do I know the Dr doesn't have any malpractice suits against him? Why is he practicing in MX & not the US? All hospitals are dirty in MX! How do they get the funding for hospitals there? Etc, etc, etc. She really had me worried, but I realized she didn't know anything about hospitals in MX as everyone has described the hospital as impeccably clean!

Now I am just angry at my PCP's ignorance! I actually switched Drs because of that. I needed a supportive Dr when I came back, so made the switch!

Oh & I also attend a bariatric support group at a clinic (where they have their own bariatric surgeon). The coordinators there were very worried when they heard I was going to Mexico too, saying I would need more support than just my PCP. But if you look at others that have gone to MX they have all done fine with just seeing their PCP, so I am sure I will do fine too.

Good luck & stick with your decision, it's a good one!

Stephanie many USA doctors have the misconception that only USA doctors are any good. They also hear all of the horror stories from people who go to Mexico without doing their research and find themselves in a lot of trouble. I have heard nothing but great things about Dr. Aceves, don't let anyone scare you like that. I can tell you that for myself I am having my surgery May 10th with dr. Ponce de leon and after having done my homework I know for a fact this is the best surgeon for me. Like I said I have heard nothing but great things about Dr. Aceves so I am sure he is as qualified or even more likely more qualified than the bariatric surgeon who is telling you not to go. Some of the fears of some of our clinicians here are well founded but unfortunately they often don't realize that there are many wonderful surgeons outside of here. IF you have done your homework, found out everything good and bad about your surgeon and are 100% confident in his skills and ethics then you have all of the tools to make the right decision for you. You should definitely worry about the risks and other things about the surgery itself and keep in mind that there are real risk asociated with any medical treatment, but if the benefits for you outweigh that risk, this will also help you in your decision (YOUR being the keyword). Best of luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
