Pasta Fix In The Mushie Phase?

OK, so my center recommends NO rice, bread, or Pasta until at least 45 days out. I don't really miss many of these things, but I was trying to think creatively about foods that I could eat in the mushie phase and I thought about meatballs. Where better to get a good meatball than at an Italian place? But, what a bummer that I could only have a meatball and no Pasta. So thats when I thought about gnocchi! It's like pasta, but its potato based. So, if I can have mased potatoes, then why not gnocchi?

My husband and I went to FIGO in Atlanta for lunch today. I had gnocchi with funghi sauce (mushrooms) and a meatball. I ate about 1/4 of the meatball and maybe four or five pieces of gnocchi... the poor server looked so disappointed that I hadn't liked my food! :wink1: It was SOOOO good... and I have enough in the to-go container to last several days!

So, I said all that to say, if you're really missing pasta in the early stages, try gnocchi!

I cannot have Pasta, bread, or rice until atleast next week (10 weeks) when I see the doctor again. But I don't even miss pasta cuz I hate the taste of whole wheat pasta and that's what we are supposed to have!

You're lucky to be able to eat like that! Honestly, any dense dumpling type food (like gnocchi, spaetzle or knodel) are really hard on me, even now. My sleeve doesn't seem to care if it's made of flour or potato. Pasta is still hard on me and I mostly avoid it, though I have noticed that I don't have as many issues with rice or glass noodles so I eat some Soups that include those when I really want my Pasta fix.

Lucky you! Thanks for sharing with other people that might want to try this, though I'd caution them to do a few small bites first just in case they're like me and don't tolerate it well. :)

And I still freak waitstaff out because they worry that I didn't like my food. It's a regular occurrence for the manager to visit my table just to be sure I enjoyed my meal because it doesn't look like I ate anything!

ok I'm an italiana here and gnocchi are the bomb you can skip the potato as well and make them with ricotta to akme them less carby and more proteiny. You use 2 cups flour, 2 eggs, 2 cups ricotta pinch of salt mix up until dough like roll into long strips cut off scrunch up boil until floating and top with favourite sauce....mmmmm good

You're right Cheri! I definitely have had a dream recovery from this surgery (other than a cracked tooth, dental abscess, and root canal courtesy of anesthesia, but that's another story). I had a little trouble with my fluids at first, but once I got past that everything that I've put in my mouth has gone down and stayed there. So, I'm very lucky! Great advice on trying just a small bit until you see how well it's gonna go down!

Wow! Thanks for the recipe... I've always wondered if, given my very limited cooking talent, I could make gnocchi at home. You think there is any chance of making it work with a ricotta/cottage cheese mix?

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

        Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
