I am going to try and make a long story short (hopefully) On Feb. 2 I had to have my gallbladder removed and was done so by the same dr. who did my lapband in 2010. During the gallbladder surgery he did the gastric plication (making stomach smaller). I will be beginning to cross over to pureed foods, and I have no idea how much am I expected or can comfortably hold. I mean is it a few table spoons or is the Protein measured in oz.

I appreciate any information you can share, and Thank You.

Your surgeon didn't give you any guidelines? That stinks. Most of us here follow a modified diet right after surgery that starts us on Clear liquids for 1-2 weeks, then progresses to full liquids for 1-2 weeks, then to soft foods (mashed potatoes, cottage cheese, pureed or very soft meats) for 1-2 weeks before allowing us to move to a normal diet. Because of swelling, most people find they cannot eat more than a couple of ounces immediately post op, although our stomach capacity increases to around 1 cup as the stomach heals.

You should definitely call your surgeon for guidelines. I'm not sure which surgery you had, a plication (IIRC) involves folding and stapling the stomach, correct? Most of us have had the majority of our stomach removed. I'm not sure what the differences in post-op diets would be, if any.

Good luck!! :)

Thank you, from what I have seen mine is similar to the sleeve, with the exception that the part of the stomach that was removed with you, has been folded inward and stabled/sutured on me. My main reason for being in the hospital was the gallbladder. The day that I left the PA just told me to continue with liquids, pureed, then food. with liquids being 2 weeks, and same for pureed. I am not sure how much during the pureed stage.

Thanks again

I'd definitely check with your Dr, but i wouldn't worry too much about portions, you won't be able to eat much more than a couple of oz in a sitting. Take it slow, buy baby silverware so you can train your body to get used to the smaller bites, and if anything feels uncomfortable, stop eating. Try to eat a little something every 3 hours or so, and remember to sip sip sip!

Good luck!

My surgeon said 4-5oz but everyone is different. Depend how big they left your stomach. Mine is a 38 ( not sure if that's mm cm or what) but my dr says there is better success with a 38 vs 32 or 34. So that will depend on how much you eat. I put one scoop of Protein Powder in about a 10 oz water/ milk /banana. I takes me all day to drink it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
