I don't have an answer, but I've been wondering the same thing! (It's one of the questions that I have on my list to ask my doctor).

I have a whole notebook from the hospital and doesn't say anything about it in there.

My surgeon gave the ok as soon as I was off of my narcotic pain meds for over 24-hours. But, if you're supposed to get an ok, I would call and tell them that you're off the medicine and have them say you're good to go.

I was driving short distances about 5 days after surgery. Granted they were short trips around town and to the store but I was driving. As for long trips that is another story. I tried to go 3 hours for Christmas and had to turn around about an hour away. The seatbelt was rubbing on my stomach and the incision areas and it was more than I could take. I would ask your surgeon and I am sure that you could call his office and ask and not go in to see him. As long as you are not taking pain medications any longer and are getting all of your fluids and not lightheaded I think that you should be able to take small trips.

I was sleeved on a Friday and on Tuesday, I was driving my son back and forth to school about 20 minutes away. I didn't go anywhere else. My surgeon said as long as I wasn't taking the Lortab he prescribed I'd be ok.

I was also told that I could drive as soon as I was off the pain meds. As a matter of fact, I drove myself home the day after surgery. The hospital insisted that I be released to someone, so my nurse friend met me and took me to her house. All I wanted was to be home and in my own bed, so I drove home from there. I'm NOT recommending that to anyone else, but I had been off the pain meds for 24 hours by that point and I had no issues from driving about 30 minutes to get home.

I could drive as long as it was 24 hours since being off the narcotic pain medicine. As for the driving and seatbelt I used a small pillow across my stomach for extra padding which worked well for me for the first month.

My doctor said wait 2 weeks. I had 5 weeks off work and it took me a good 2 weeks to even feel stable enough to drive. I drove on Thurs and Fri one short on a bit longer to my weight loss group meeting. A had my mom with me both times. I would definately take my time on this regardless of the reason because you have responsibilities to yourself, your new sleeve (the bumps and brakes take toll on your body), your passengers and the drivers surrounding you.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
