Hey, I am experiencing times when I get unbalanced with my new weight. I just got out of the car, and felted really unbalanced. Just a little adjusting. Can this be due to the weigh I've lost? Has anyone experienced the also?

Oh, Dorrie, LMAO here! Thank goodness my best friend has lost a significant amount of weight before and warned me about this one!! Yes, it's VERY common. I run into walls all the time. My theory is that I used to take up so much more space that it's taking my mind a while to adjust to being so much smaller now. I can literally trip walking across flat ground!

I have a spring to my step now that makes me think I can just walk and do anything I want, then gravity and my own messed up balance will make me trip. I laugh at myself a lot because I think I look like a drunk some days. :)

Wow, I've experieced exatly the opposite. I am far more balanced now then I have been my whole adult life. I was amazed yet this morning how I can put my pants on while standing up, I used to have to sit or I'd topple over.

Maybe you're right and the sudden weight loss has thrown off your coordination, you were so used to applying forces in a certain way to counteract a certain high weight that you are now over compensating.

Yep. That makes alot of sense. It is just so strange when I got out of the car and I felt my body sway forward and then I over corrected and my body swayed backwards. Thanks for all your feedback. I feel more normal now. ;)

I have had to readjust my balance, gait, and posture. I'm naturally pretty uncoordinated so maybe it affected me more than others.

The first few months when weight loss was fastest, I wobbled around like a drunk.

I'm still learning to walk a little differently now that I'm not lugging around an extra 100+ lbs. I used to walk a little hunched over and I have to concentrate on standing straight, shoulders, hips. and knees aligned.

And had to relearn how to sit and stand. I used to need to use something for support to get off the sofa or a chair instead of just leaning forward a bit and straightening my legs as I do now.

It took a while to realize that I could bend over to do something on the ground like tie my shoe or pick something up instead of getting down on one knee.

And it took a while to realize I could fit through a space. I would be standing there like I was blocked before realizing, "hey, I can fit through there now!"

Haha. What great problems to have!!

Just another note, my wife says I do not waddle any more when I walk - so YES losing the weight helps your posture, gait and balance so it seems there WOULD be a re-learning period, especially when the weight comes off so fast.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
