How Successful Was Your Surgery?

Recommended Posts

My experience is a 10! I am four months out and have lost 58 lbs. I feel great and just amazed at the changes. I am starting to have the dreadful Hair loss over the past couple of weeks. I think I may look into some hair extensions for now. I couldn't be happier!

I'm a little over 2 months out and so far, I would rate it a 10. I'm 45lbs down, and feeling the best I've felt in over 10 years. So much more energy, and no issues with food. This is the best decision I've ever made regarding ME! :D

Def a 10 for me as well. Went from my highest around Christmas of 2011 of 285lbs to today (May 29th, 2012) at 213lbs. I still have 40 pounds to go, but given that I had surgery on Jan 17th 2012, and its only been a bit over 4 months, I am pretty happy with the results.

I do workout everyday but Sunday, walking 5 miles per day 5 days per week, and lifting heavy weights 3 days per week, so its not all just eating less. But, the more you lose, the easier it is to keep heading to the gym! Also, I have been gaining muscle, which some try to tell you is not possible at a caloric deficit.

I hope to be inside of 200 lbs by the 4th of July, and hit my goal weight of 170 by my birthday in November. At this point, I am pretty confident that will happen!

EDIT: Also, diabetes is gone, as is sleep apnea and hypertension! Its truely life changing. And I dont say that lightly.

I would also have to rate it a 10 hell lets go a 15! I started at 238.1 the day of surgery even tho my highest was 265. And as of today 5 months post op im 13 lbs from goal which is 150. I feel amazing, and I have enjoyed the process of a better me. I wish i had done this sooner, but everything in its own time right?!?!?! I can't wait to see where im at a year post op.. even tho im sure ill be at goal by next month, im just wanting to see what i am doing in a year. lol. But all in all... I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO REGRETS ABOUT THIS SURGERY!

I want to answer this question in 10 years. The long term effects are still not known. It is an 8 for me right now. At 5'11" I weighed in today at 175. I lost 2.5 pounds this past week. If I keep losing I will be very scared. It will be one year June 13th and I am down about 116 to 120 pounds depending on the scale. I actually wish I had to fight a little more to lose weight because I am terrified of working out. I look very thin right now. I am hoping it stops soon. I gotta up my calories, but that is a serious chore and I feel stuffed all day. I can certainly go lower without being sick, but it is just scary. I have never been this thin...maybe when I was 8 or 9. I am embracing it, but just hope I stop somewhere. I have had this fear since the very beginning because I knew it was really going to work for me.

Right now, a big 10!!!

I am 8 weeks out today and am 30 lbs down since surgery and 36.4 down if you include the 1 week pre-op diet!

I have NEVER been able to do this before surgery w/the MANY diets tried... so I feel pretty darn good!

Starting Weight: 271.2

This Morning: 234.8

I've lost 6 BMI points, too - so cool :)

Have you considered weight lifting?

Updated: I have to say YES this surgery has been successful for me. I am not at goal yet and it's been 11 months but... I am so happy to be where I am. So I am going to give it a 9. 10 would be if it were magic and I looked like Angelina right now!

I feel my relationship with food has changed so much. I have no doubt that I will get those last 30 or so pounds off. I am not exercising like I should be but I am holding steady at 185. That's a big difference from where I started at 292. And I have never held steady at any weight in my life.

I have not been strict about eating the last couple of months and hardly any exercise and still holding steady. This is great. As I add back in the exercise I am confident the rest will come off.

Updated: I was sleeved on 3/14 and chose the sleeve as I yo yo dieted for years and struggled with my weight constantly. I needed this surgery as I was t keeping the weight off long term, I would lose 20 and regain 35 in a matter of months. I was at my all time highest weight of 230 when I had surgery, I am 183 now. After being sleeved I lost alit of blood and had a small rough patch but never regretted my decision, the joy I feel as I eat a small meal and feel satisfied, how I don't think about food all day and how much more energy I have and how hard aim pushing myself to become stronger be it through spinning, running, weight lifting, I am challenging myself. I love my sleeve and without knowing all the long term effects or impacts of the sleeve, I would rate it a 9! It has helped me get a new attitude toward food and exercise and I will be forever grateful for that.

PS shouldblittler I am from the Philly area, we can be local buddies!!!

For me it's a big 10. I am able to eat and drink whatever I like in smaller quantities, except most dairy. I can eat greek yogurt and firm cheeses, but everything else gets me. I switched to soy milk in my latte. I can tolerate dairy a little better now and occasionally have ice cream or whipped cream, but not much.

I am at goal and have been maintaining a couple of months. I have a lot more energy now and I love the way I look. I do have some loose skin, but at 55, I didn't expect to look 30, so I'm OK with it.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
