I've had a couple of coughing fits today. It feels like I've busted a gut or God forbid popped a staple. I tried so hard to cough. It seems like that makes it much worse. I had a pillow on my abdomin but, I'm scared I may have caused damage. I'm sucking on SF cough drops now.

Anyone else have this problem?

I think my cough was more of a dry irritated cough. I even think the brusinig looks worse on one of my incisions. Maybe it's just my head messing with me. I hope so.

I'm sure you are fine. I hear you will know if you ripped a staple and contents from stomach are floating around abdomen. You get real real sick and have fever.

Ps you talk about your throat. Mine still hurts bad more like my esophagus though. I actually have a large bump. Still painful. They must have scraped it good! Dr said he never saw that reaction before. Hurts to take deep breaths and swallow. Ouch. I'm 10 days out too.

Ouch Punky. I'm sorry to hear that. I was having severe acid reflux since last night I'm sure it probably caused the acid-y irritation in my throat.

I developed a bad cold the day before I started my pre op diet. By the day of surgery only the cough was left. I think the cough got worse after the surgery and I had to go to my family dr for a rx for the cough. I took it for about a week before the cough went away. I know what you're talking about! It's almost torture! I felt like I busted staples also and told the dr this. He said I was using muscles to cough with and that's what was hurting. Specifically my lower left side. I have not coughed since Friday. I bought some of those heat Patches and spent the weekend in bed with the patches and I feel much better. Not 100% but much better. The pain was so bad Friday I could not bend to touch my toes. Today I can.

I coughed alot to and brought up some mucus the Anesthesiologist said that would happen after surgery just didn't expect it to be so long. It lasted about 4 days and when I felt like it was gonna hurt I hit my albutorol inhaler I use during flu season.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
