Anybody Get Taller After Losing?

Recommended Posts

When I was younger I was 6'4". When I got fat I went down to 6'2".

I am just wondering if anyone got some height back after losing the extra pull of gravity. Or do I need to hang myself in the closet like Barney Fife getting taller for the deputies test? :)

Also I think that it will depend on your age. As we age we get shorter in general as our spinal column compresses thus making us shorter. I assume that the more you weight the more your spine compresses. My guess would be that you are looking taller as your posture is better and your stomach is not making you bend over or arch your back which has probably been the cause of back pain. Hopefully whti the weight loss your back pain with decrease and your posture will get back to a more normal state.

It would be possible to "get taller" when you have weight you are forced into a harder "c" in your back, and it pulls you down. There is a good chance you are doing some sort of core exercise, and that will help you stand taller also. The thinner you are usually makes you look taller also. If you took a 2"x2" square on a piece of paper, and then a 1"x2" rectangel on another, most will say the rectangle looks taller.

I have heard of a slight decompression of the spine associated with large amounts of visceral weight loss, too. I would think if you lost alot in your breast or along your shoulders and back it would do the same. It would be a small amout but that and standing straighter would add at least a little.

Soooo many odd little things like this as we progress through our "new me"! I am so glad we have a place to post our concerns and questions. I LOVE VST!!!

i can easily see the height increase with less gravitational pull on ur spine...

I have heard also u can can inches "there" too, and its not just an illusion from smaller stomach

I absolutely got taller! I was measured by my PCP in August of 2010 so that she could have an exact BMI, and I was 5'5.25". Now, 13 months out, I am exactly 5'6" tall. I also went from a 9.5wide to an 8 in shoes. Its crazy!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
