Insurance Approved

Recommended Posts

I got a call from my insurance Friday that they have approved the surgery! I will get a surgery date from my doctor next week. I am probably looking at the middle or end of March. I finally feel it's really going to happen.

I'm excited and scared to death. I know this is the right thing to do but it doesn't stop the butterflies in my stomach. I dream of where I will be a year from now....what size cloths will I be wearing? how much energy will I have? What will I be able to do then that I can't do today?

But then I fear giving up food. Is this normal?

I got my call after my insurance approved everything on Thursday, and they told me its the 29th. Pre-op diet starts Wed. I didn't sleep all night. And again last night. I'm not so nervous about the pain of surgery or complications as I am about the fear of giving up food. I will have to face my fears in 3 days with the post-op diet.

Congratulations, Deb! My surgery is on 2/15 and I am not that nervous yet because I am so focused on my goal of becoming a healthier me. However, I am sure the morning of the surgery my nerves will kick since it is normal to be nervous. Hang in there and stay positive!

Alicia - I am now on day 10 of a liquid diet and have found it to be much easier than I thought it would be. I decided to start a low carb diet on Jan 1st which then led into my liquid diet 10 days ago. I get four Atkins shake a day and unlimited Water, sugar free popsicles, sugar free Jello, 99% fat free chicken broth, and coffee/tea with sweetner. The first few days I was having as much of those items as I could but then I found that I did not need as much. I get an occasional headache but otherwise this has been a great exercise for post surgery. I find other ways to keep myself busy instead of focusing on food or what I am going to eat. It is a little difficult when I have to make something for my daughter or when my roommates makes something that smells and looks delicious, but I haven't had a cheat at all!

If you think positively and focus on that you WILL do this and you CAN do what needs to be done you will be successful. Don't second guess yourself or set yourself up for failure. Best of luck to you!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
