Im now banded!!

Recommended Posts

My wife and I were banded on the 27th! She went in at 3:00pm and I went in at 6:00pm. I went in and had my IV put in at 9 in the morning and the rest of the time sat with family. I was really nervouse but everyone at the hospital was great. I got out about 9:00 that night and was half awake and the first thing I did was go to the bathroom and then they took out my IV and had me answer a few questions and then I was in the car headed home. Went to bed that night and woke up around 2:00am and then realized I was not getting out of bed by my self. I called my wifes brother in the next room and he came in and simply pulled me up. Getting back in bed was the same way I had to have him lay me back. The next day I was sore but better. Every day got better and I went for short walks. Friday night was the last day I took pain pills due to them not helping with soreness. I am back at work today and about 85% back to normal. I am a little light headed everynow and then. I have gone from 295 to 290 surgury day to 279 today. Feels great to come back to work and everyone is like..you lost some weight you can see it in your face!

If you got any qustions please feel free to ask...

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
