I am probably older than most others on this site. I am still on the supervised diet and I can't wait to be sleeved. My cardiologist suggested I look into WLS. It just never occured to me previously. I am so glad that I did. I have alot of medical issues that I am hoping will get better with the surgery. Most of all I want to look good as well as feel good. I sent my two children to professional school, now it is my turn.

You don't say how old you are, but there are many here who are in their 50's and 60's. There are some age related forums listed-you might check into those.

I will be 57 next month, and thought I was too old. But after only losing 75lbs I feel like I'm 20 years younger!!

I'm also just around the corner from 60, so you're not alone in this...it also seems we live in the same area. I had my surgery at the end of November and am so happy with my decision!

I guess I'm the senior here at 64 (63 when I had surgery in Oct '11). As I've said before and often, my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. I had a perfect surgery, have never thrown up or suffered undue discomfort... I am one happy camper. I'm down 66 pounds and am just trying to get to onederland in February. I'll update my ticker then!

I am 62 (for another month anyway) and am so happy that I had my procedure! It is the best decision I ever made! I am so much healthier and a lot happier. I have been able to stop several of my medications, and know that I feel SO much better! Have never had any real complications. Loving my Sleeve!

I recently turned 55 and I'm approaching the one year anniversary of my sleeve. I have had no significant problems since surgery, have gotten off of my CPAP machine, all my blood pressure meds, and all of my cholesterol meds. I feel about 20 years younger than I was feeling!

Go for it - you will feel much better and younger after your surgery. Best of luck to you.

I am going to be 55 soon, only 6 weeks post op. This topic seemed to bring together many from my age group. Did anyone here have an issue with losing weight at the beginning? I have not lost any weight since my 2 week check up and it's getting discouraging. I have but one day to lose the the 6 lb goal that my Dr gave me. I dread going to the Dr's and nutritionist appointments on Thursday.

I feel very fortunate that my Doctor has not mentioned anything about goals. I mean how much control do we really have over this whole thing? I think most everyone is eating close to the minimum necessary to sustain life!! do they expect us to go down to 400 calories a day?

Unless of course someone is eating nothing but candy and donuts. But I doubt that is the case.

Hi Castletree

You are right. We do live in the same area. I will be having my sleeve at Valley Hospital. Did you stay in Rockland for your surgery? Good luck with your weight loss. You are on your way.

I know it feels discouraging and I was the first time I hit a wall but your body will adjust and then the pounds will come again. Just keep doing the right thing and the scale will move again. I've been in a rut for the last 2 weeks, going up a pound, down a pound. I just stopped weighing myself every day and will try once a week (and maybe walk a little more to give it a nudge) LOL

It is great to hear everyones stories! I am 39, will be 40 in June. I never consider WLS until my employer sent out an email saying it was now covered in our plan! I made my first appointment Nov 1, 2011 and weight in at 307! I am 6'0 tall and in high school I was 180. I have to have 6 months of supervised weight loss which I started the second week of December. I am now down to 278! I probably won't be able to have surgery until June (my big 40th birthday present to myself!) I am so excited and feeling so much better already! Friends tell me " your doing so good you may not even surgery!" I still do because I know my track record and it is too easy to put the weight back on!! I just hope that I can convince my husband to follow!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
