Addicted To Vitamins

Recommended Posts

Before vsg I would NEVER I repeat NEVER take my Vitamins. I now take vitafusion multivites and vitafusion Calcium (they are sooo delicious) I have to hide them from my husband and daughter. In addition to these I take Centrum chewables because it has more Iron. I asked my doc if I was taking to much and he said too many vitamins can't hurt so every chance I get I treat myself with a calcium Gummy trying not to exceed 5 in a day. I drink lots of Water to keep from getting gall stones. Has anyone else fallen in love with vitamins? If so, what kind do you take?

Actually I would be careful taking too many Vitamins. you can overload you system on 4 vitamins ---A,D,E,K. These are fat soluble vitamins, so if you take too much, you do not pee them out like all the other vitamins. hypervitaminosis is a well know syndrome and you want to avoid this. so take the recommended amounts and try not to overdue it.

Even though I have not had surgery(hope to have it this summer), I take my Vitamins. Most of us are Vit D deficient, so it doesn't hurt if we take more of the D3. Of course, with your location, you may get enough, if you spend enough time outside. However, I will not dispute that A,D,E,K are fat soluble, and are the ones that can be overdosed on.

Thank you for your post. Before surgery I was so malnutrioned (is that a word?) my doc said it wouldn't hurt to take enough vitimans. At my next appointment I will have blood work done and I will definitely know if I'm doing too much then I will back off lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
