At 8 Months Out I Ate...

Recommended Posts

1 egg over easy, 1/2 piece of scrapple and three bites of a pancake. I can not eat another bite!

It is amazing to me how little I can eat after well over two years out! Got to love the sleeve!

I know and here i am going into my 3rd year and can bearly finish a kids hormel completes dinner. . . or a whole lean cuisine. It was too funny, I went for Breakfast with my daughter on saturday to IHOP and just wanted something "small" (yeah right) so I ordered from the fit and healthy menu. . .1 omelette and fruit. . less then 400 calories. . should be good huh? Surrrreeee, here it came and looked like they had put 4 eggs into the omelet. . . of course I only could eat 1/4 of that and some of the fruit. . . poor waiter thought I hated the food. . . it was too funny. . . . .

I don't get it. I keep seeing people who are 4,6 or 8 months out who can barely eat 4 bites.

while my ability to eat has definitely gone down (from 4 pieces of pizza or 4 tacos to 1) I don't find myself only able to eat like 4 bites.

How are these people able to get in enough protein/calories to sustain life? Granted I am only allowed to eat 3 meals a day NO Snacks, so maybe I have to eat more at each sitting. I guess if I was eating 5-6 times a day a smaller amount would satisy me.

I feel like maybe something is wrong with me or my sleeve and I will not succeed because I am eating so much.

For breakfast I had 2 egg whites, 1 slice bacon and 8oz milk. lunch or dinner usually is about 3-4oz meat and then 1/2 cup of veggies or 1 cup salad. I will admit that I cheat on my doctors plan and have a 100 calorie "dessert" every night.

I am almost 3 months out.

Oh my gosh, you get that too? I can't tell you how many times we have gone to eat someplace, and I can't finish my food so I ask for a to go box. They are always worried something was wrong because I eat so little. I have even had them send the manager over to make sure everything was okay. I don't want to say to a complete stranger that I was sleeved, so I usually just say I wasn't as hungry as I thought, but it is so delicious that I am going to take it home for later.

Well it depends on bougie size I'm assuming. . . my doctor made mine 28/32F (really small) and at 3 years out i'm still having a LOT of restriction.

I went to a diner and order a side of bacon. The watress said: "That's all?" then I proceded to give my daughter 4 of the 5 slices and take from her a tablespoon or two of eggs.

Mine was a 32 bougie.

I love my sleeve, I love my sleeve.

Your volume seems simliar to mine. Except for the first month or so, I was always able to eat my 1/2 cup volume. At 2 years out, I can eat 1.5 slices of thin crust pizza. I'll take that any day over the 5 or 6 slices I used to be able to put down. (OK - honestly, I could have eaten more back then, but I didn't let myself be "that big of a pig").

Personally, I think you are fine. Eat the volume your doctor recommends. It's definitely smaller than what you had pre-surgery. Also - follow your cues for full. If you haven't eaten everything on your plate, just adjust Protein levels later.

i feel the exact same way...sometimes I feel "guilty" or that I am "doing it wrong"... our docs assured us at our last support group meeting that you would have to really over eat for an extended perior of time (implied years) for us to expand our sleeves to the point thats "not good"...I think as long as your eating the right foods, getting your Protein, excercising, and losing (or maintaining depending on your case) then you are doing "it" right!!

If you are losing weight and are healthy, I don't see anything amiss.

Just for me I don't think I will be doing and tacos or pizza they way they would do in a restaurant. Regular breads, Pasta and tortillas (except handmade corn and only half) are out for life. I looked at some pizza my husband brough home, scraped off the topping for one slice and put it on a small low-carb wheat tortilla and had my pizza. fully 7/8 of that pizza was doughy crust and sleeve space waster. When you only get 2-3 oz of room, you really look at foods differently I think.

I definitely agree ... However, I'm in maintenance mode & allow myself some pizza and similiar foods on occaision. (It's one of our family traditions to order pizza and watch America's Funniest Home Videos on Sunday night together as a family. :aureola: )

I went to Breakfast with my family today and I ordered a ham scrambler (ham and eggs) with country potatos and sour dough toast. I ate about 1/4th of the ham and egg, 3 small bites of potato, a bit of toast and 2 bites of cantalope. I didn't bother to bring the left overs home. I was totally stuffed. However, earlier when I had gotten up, I drank a Protein drink and ate a baby bel because my family is the slowest at getting ready to go anywhere. Over all, I like how much I eat, I just don't like it when I'm famished!

Everyone is doing fine with their eating. Just keep loosing........ If not, mix it up... ;)

I see your point. I'm not complaining because frankly I've never eaten so well. I don't blink at spending $10-12 a pound for fillet mignon or ahi when it takes me a week to eat it all. Steak, sashimi tuna and scallops. Please don't force me to dip that steak into Thai peanut sauce. Poor me. ;-)

LOL ... It's a rough life isn't it. I know that for me, if something doesn't taste good, I don't waste my time. It is on to something that does. Before, I would eat the "bad" thing and eat something else later. No wonder I had a weight problem.

Enjoy your high dollar eating plan .... Instead of "let them eat cake" maybe it should be "let them eat only the best"! :0)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
