Tastes Much More Sensitive

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else noticed an increase in your taste sense? I used to like equal and artificial sweetners. I can't stand them anymore. They are so disgusting and thats all I can taste when I get 'diet food'. So I just started getting regular food since I'm eating so much less of it....and the fact that I'll actually eat the regular food instead of just let it sit there in the fridge until I throw it out. (i.e. greek yogurt, juice, etc).

YES ... i still have this problem 6 months out ... nothing taste the same anymore... I just look at it this way- food is Fuel for my body and so I eat what I need to keep it running properly. Don't get me wrong I do treat myself every now and then to foods that really taste good- I like to think of this as Premuim Fuel and I don't do it all the time just because Premuim usually comes at a higher price ;) JUST LIKE GAS ... The higher priced Premuim usually equal to weight gain or more time at the gym... either way- I HATE THE COST... #STICKING2REG(most day LOL!!! :) )

My tastes changed drastically. Things I used to love no longer appeal to me, while things I wouldn't have touched before, I actually enjoy now. That is a good thing though, because the things I loved pre-sleeve were unhealthy and the things I now love post-sleeve are healthy.

I'm really sensitive to sweetness now. EVERYTHING that has sugar in it tastes sooo sweet. Sleevie doesn't like sugars either. That is working well for me though. Sugar was my slider, now I can't tolerate it and it tastes differant.

My sense of taste is very heightened now. I don't find this to be a problem though because everything tastes so much better. I too am using regular food and 2% dairy. When I drink juice it's off my own trees and watered down 50% or more. Regular juices ARE WAY TOO SWEET! I don't want any high fructose corn Syrup or Aspartame for that matter. Processed foods are way too salty. My sleeve likes fresh food.

Add me to the list of people with a dramatic change in their taste buds. Everything tastes different to me now. For instance, sometimes things that taste normal to everyone else will taste spoiled to me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
