Leederz 49 Posted February 5, 2012 So I was approved for my surgery following a long year of denial letters and appeals. I am approved to have it before July, When I first started this journey I was 260+ but since then Ive lost to about 235 (A lot has to do with stress from school and not eating). I have my surgery scheduled for March 1st and based on my bmi now Im at 40.5 On the document 40 is the lowest bmi so if I do the doctors pre op Protein diet and lose more weight could they still deny me the day of the surgery if my bmi is lower than 40???? Any experiences, recommendations, or advice I would greatly appreciate. Im pulling my hair our over here worrying.
SecretStarr82 4 Posted February 5, 2012 Once your approved your fine... I was first denied because I was 39.8 so I did weight in later at 40.6 and then the dr office sent it back to the insurance co. and I was approved! My pre-op diet put me back under 40 but I was already approved so it didn't matter.
Leederz 49 Posted February 5, 2012 Thanx so much for answering. My parents were telling me I was losing weight and Im like oh no its just the clothes lol then I go on the scale and realized I did lose even more so good as long as I have my approval letter I am set. I didnt want to have to eat a whole bunch to gain before surgery.
Meredit 15 Posted February 5, 2012 I was worried about this too, but the doctors office said your first weigh in is the number they submit to the insurance company. Once your approved, your approved! Good Luck!!
happy1957 138 Posted February 5, 2012 Congratulations on getting approved! I too had lots of denials over 11 months and had lost weight. My Dr. Said that they use the first weight you ever had at the nutritionist. So when they send to the insurance company, that's the weight they use. I was under 40 and it was not an issue. The best of luck to you.
