First Day On Pre-Op Diet And Sugar Substitutes.....

Recommended Posts

My husband and I do not eat, drink anything with artificial sugar substitutes because they are not good for you. We eat as much organic as we can. I did mention this to my dietician and she suggested using stevia, which is fine by me. But everything I picked up on their suggestions list has sucralose in it. the EAS Advant EDGE carb control drinks has it. The CarbMaster yogurt from Kroger as well. Does anyone have any suggestions? I do go tomorrow for pre op testing and will see what they say...in the meantime I guess it's Water for the rest of the day.... :banghead:

Do you think drinking them for a 4 week period is going to kill you. All I can say is for myself, without them I would fail my 2 week post op. I am on my pre op and its already coming close to me breaking down. I goto bed starving. But drinking the EAS drinks help big time. I also use Promasil zero carb shakes but they are just as good as Water "no thickness".

Hope your house is cleaned out. Goodluck

I guess thanks for your reply.I don't quite understand your comment about my house though, but rest assured it is clean.. It's not just pre-op it will also be for 3 months post op as well that I will be drinking Protein Drinks. My Nutritionalist did find a site: http://proteinpowder.mercola.com/pure-protein.html

I have placed an order and feel much better about what I am putting in my body...

Good Luck to you as well....

Cleaning your house as in cleaning everything you cant eat out of it. Your going to want some substance in your stomach and liquids just dont cut it LoL. I fight with this everyday and my deckhands feel obligated to eat right in front of me knowing that I am starving. Its been an eye opener for me.

Oh.....I get it! I am eating high Protein and vegetables along with the supplement protein drinks. Like tonight I had left over roasted chicken breast and a tossed salad. I have a husband that likes to eat healthy as well as I do. Now I am on the hunt for some high Protein Bars with sugar alcohol as the sugar substitute. Good luck to you and shame on your shipmates.... :(

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
