I Am Looking For A Surgery Buddy And Support - Surgery 4/28

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I am looking for a surgery buddy and people who are also going through this to go through it with me. I currently have my surgery scheduled with Dr. Almanza on April 28 (Eeeee!!!! So excited!!!). I am wanting some positive people to do this with that will understand what I'm going through and be there to text, email or call when we need it.

I am a very positive person, 39, BMI is 39. I live in Dallas, I'm a CPA, no husband or children (yet... I hope!!). Please let me know if you are interested in going through this adventure with me!

Take care,

Cynthia

Hey there,

Girl I will be your surgery buddy. I am 43, and my BMI is 40.5. I am only 5'0 ft tall. I live in Nashville and I am so excited about this surgery. I had a lot of reservations at first but, I want my life back. A little about me. I am married and have three boys. Aged 10, 12, and 42 (hahah, my husband). I was in shape most of my life, but then my back went out. I used to be a gymnist and I had spondiolethesis, and had to have major back surgery a year ago. Since then I have gained so much weight. I am 5'0 and I weigh 209. With this surgery, my hopes is to lose 80lbs. I would love to be your surgery buddy and support you and I would love the support in turn. Thanks for your post, I just started my process and I will most likely have the surgery in May. So, we are still very close. I am going the insurance route. I work for Federal Govt. and have Fed BCBS. So, I have to do a 3 month medically supervised diet. Hey, I gottal go but, lets talk some more. Tell me more about yourself ....I am still trying to figure out how to get a picture up on ths site. :) Have a great evening. I will check back in in the morning. Taking the boys out to dinner. Bye for now. I am excited to get to know you better. Thanks Heather

Me too! I'm scheduled for my sleeve this Thursday, the 28th :) I am a wee bit worried though because my allergies are hitting hard.

I'm 46, BMI has been 40, though I've lost some weight with this pre-op diet! I'm 5'6", HW: 251, CW: 234.6 and GW: 150. I have PCOS, so I am assuming I will be a slow loser in general. I have 1 son, he's 20 now and in the military. Insurance is paying for this, after all my deductibles are met, which is still expensive.

I am super new to BariatricPal, hopefully I can figure out how to get my stats updated!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
