I am not necessarily recommending this for everyone and experts on these ingredients please chime in with any objections .

I have a cure for the frequent Constipation that seems to occur after surgery. We bought some Herbal Slimming Tea at Big Lots, very cheap. The active ingredients are: Senna leaves, Malva leaves, Panax Ginseng, and Stevia leaves. A cup of this and about 6 hours later it's show time. Takes about a half hour before the sessions are over. I suggest a half cup to start with. If you go this route be sure to set aside the time, don't make big plans somewhere, could be embarrassing. :)

I only do this every few days out of fear that it may be habit forming.

I got constipated a week ago for 2 whole days. Aaaaaagony. I emaild the surgeon's office: nilk of magnesia (yeah, right) and went into the kitchen to cook up some prunes in Water. Ate the prunes, drank the 1/2 cup juice and was nicely relieved. Wouldn't normally have any fruit just yet but rationalized it as really medicinal.

Be careful with Senna. There are many types of senna used herbally. It is a stimulant which can alter your apetite and depending on which species you use it may be a diuretic also - it can also show side effects after a few to several days use. It is not recommended for people who are prone to aniety, heart disease and those who are on medications for bipolarism, paranoia, etc.

I have seen first hand what can happen with senna, which was why I wanted to respond.

It is most definately an aid for constipation! It is also used to purge horses and such if they overeat.

Thanks, I figured there would be some cautions with this, pretty effective stuff. I will only use it if I have to and not in on consecutive days..

Not unless you go through areas with lots of gas stations and you are a pretty good sprinter. :)

I used Citrucel. It worked overnight. Also adding high Fiber foods when your diet allows will take care of this. Broccoli and Beans are my go to.

I HATE prunes. Yuck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
