kwyant1976 48 Posted February 2, 2012 i am wondering how much outside support i am going to need after my surgery.. I am 5 days out and I think my true support person may be checking out on me. She says she will be there however I just dont feel that confident at this moment that she really will be there as much as i may need her to be. Should i cancel my surgery? Thanks for your thougths
LilMissDiva Irene 3,282 Posted February 2, 2012 Hmmm... well, how long will you be in the hospital would be my first question. If you will be in the hospital for more than 2 nights, I'd say you really don't need anyone's help. By then you should be able to get up and walk around on your own. You won't need to cook really, heating up broth and pouring yourself drinks doesn't take up much energy. Getting up and down from bed or toilet is as easy as having high back chairs around you where you need them the most... That said, you really should have someone with you for at least the first 48 hours. Just to keep an eye on you, make sure your sleeping, and of course getting you out of bed to walk around. This is my opinion only of course. I just know that I needed to have someone around to help me out. Good luck to you!!! It's tough enough without having to worry you may have to go it alone. ncstatebabe 6 Posted February 3, 2012 I'm not sure if you're talking about mental or physical support but if you're talking about mental i'd recommend counseling. I'm a huge binge eater and I overcame bulimia a couple years ago but I don't think I could do this surgery without counseling. I know some people think that you're a "crazy" person if you do this but I think its just another tool to help you with weight loss. Most people are over weight because they have an eating addiction so why would you not take care of the problem that's causing the addiction; which is your brain. Hope this helps and good luck on your journey. :smile1:
