7 Weeks Out Follow Up Report!

Recommended Posts

Yesterday was my 7 weeks since surgery. Thought I would give an update cuz some of you are asking about post op eating and diets, etc. Went to the doctor today and have some changes! last week I was moved up to 8 oz. of food from 4 oz. when he put me on regular foods. (Still can't eat that much though!) Now today I have been moved to any foods except bread and steak. He even said salad was fine and raw veggies and whole fruits. My max calories were increased from 800 max to between 800-1,000 max. I have had a great decrease in body fat percentage and my muscle mass has increased since I have been doing 1/2 hour on the treadmill daily. I was increased to 45 minutes onthe treadmill, and every few days I have increased my incline a bit and speed and it gets easier eaxh day. He also told me to start working my upper arms with 5 lb. weights every day if possible.

I have lost 32 pounds so far. Although I originally only had 55 lbs. to lose, I was considered in the "morbidly obese" range. All of my weight was in my abdomen and very dangerous. I had a horrible hiatial hernia repair (2 hours worth) before my sleeve. I am now only 20 lbs. away from my doctor's goal. I feel so good and love my sleeve!

To all of you who just recently had your surgery and feeling regretful about it, please don't. Some just don't heal as quickly as others, and everyone's body reacts differently. You won't be on liquids or Protein drinks forever, so just try to be as patient as possible and get through that and the mushies stage and then when you get to foods again, you will be so happy because you will see the pounds and inches just falling off. You will feel better than ever! Love my sleeve and this website! Janet

OOH today I had the best lunch. Two Jennio turkey meatballs with marinara sauce, cottage cheese, mixed peas and carrots, and a small sald with diced Tomato and avocado with a little lettuce. Although I really didn't care for the lettuce yet, so I will skip that next, but I had some variety today anyway. Remember there is an end to the liquid and mushies stages!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
