Am I Being Hypochondriac?

Recommended Posts

Am I still at a risk of complication? I am on week 10 and feeling great except for a few exceptions that might be related. Not sure if I am being hypochondriac or if I should call my surgeon.

1- For the last week or two (not every day) I have had mild pain on my left side, between my breast and waist area. Closer to the waist area. In a scale of 0 to 10, that is level 2. More of an annoyance than anything else.

2-Last night I was sitting drinking a Protein shake (Peanut Butter, Lactaid Milk & powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored) and I had a stomach pain that started at level 10! I got up and had to put my head on the kitchen counter and then wobbled to the bathroom. TMI alert. I only urinated a bit and passed gas a bit and the pain went away. It lasted a total of about 2 minutes on level 10.

3-In the middle of the night I heard a popping sound coming from my stomach. Was I dreaming? I have no idea. It has me worried because of Lissas friends experience at the gym.

I have had chest pain since last night but it feels identical to my occasional costochondritis (harmless chest wall pain). I am very gassy today. Should I call my surgeon? I am usually all for calling them, but I'm wondering if it is just excessive gas.

I was 9 weeks out when my abscess was discovered and 3 months when my leak was discovered. Check with your Dr for sure. I had the left side pain but they never confirmed it as a symptom. Left shoulder (they kept saying chest) pain was my only noticable symptom.

It is never a bad thing to call your Doctor if you feel something isn't right. I'm hoping its nothing!! But its always to be on the safe side, find out and if it turns out to be gas - well at least you will know.

I don't think there's any such thing as being a hypochondriac in being concerned over pains or anything out of ordinary for having such a major surgery.

*hugs*

Its never a bad thing to call your doctor in a situation like this. Look, you already paid a good chunk of his second or third home off - I think you're entitled to a few calls :) You could have had something stuck too - I hope everything comes out just fine - better to call and have everything be a-ok than not call and have a problem :)

I totally understand your concern. I've called my surgeon's assistant more times then I care to admit, but everyone here is right. We make a huge commitment to this surgery and the surgeon has made a committment to us to make sure everything is okay. I was really concerned about that left sided pain and my surgeon said it was really nothing to worry about, but just to be safe, I went to the internal doc that I had to see before surgery and had him do a follow up as well to make sure everything looked good from his standpoint. Gave me much more piece of mind.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
