About that gas and shoulder pain...

Recommended Posts

When will it be gone?:cry

I am 9 days out and my shoulder hurts particularily at night.

I am walking every day, maybe 20 minutes.

Maybe I should walk more?

I just want it gone.

Also, I don't remember my stomach sticking out this far ever.

Does the abdomen swell after this surgery?

Yes the stomach swells, and is possible still full of gas. I am 3 weeks out and i am still swollen over my port. The gas takes time. And if the doctor did not try to remove most of it (which might be the case if your stomach is still sticking out) then that might be why you still have pain. As for walking to get it out, try walking at least 5-10 minutes every hour. You can also do the 20 minute workout walk, but get up every hour and move move move. That will get rid of the gas.

I had the shoulder pain like you at night, after a week it finally went away. Never had the stomach gas, hopefully it will all go away soon. Good luck and keep us posted.

I hope it will help you for me to tell you this, but I had this shoulder, referred gas pain for about two weeks. Maybe you're going to be like that, too. FD has the good advice, and try those baby tummy drops, simethicone....you only have to take a few drops, and it does help some. I used a heating pad on my stomach, and it helped on my shoulder. Sometimes I put it on my shoulder, and if it felt good there, yeah! Try a warm bath. Walking, like FD said, is the best thing.

I know it's tough...it'll be over soon, and you'll be all better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
