Not Sure What To Do...

Recommended Posts

I FINALLY spoke to the surgeon's office today. We made my appointment for the nutritionist, dietician, and exercise specialist for Wednesday. I am SO worried that they are going to tell me that the six months I spent with my PCP isn't going to be good enough and that I will need to do it over again! I am SOO scared of that. I also made an appointment with the psychologist, and also to have blood work done. I am nervous, and hoping that all will be well, but with my luck it won't be. With my PCP he told me to exercise, watch what I eat, and we weighed in every month that I went. For insurance reasons, I am hoping that is good enough and that I don't need to do anymore with them! Any advice would help?

I do not think that you will have any problem with your 6 month diet as long as it was supervised and documented by your PCP. I would wait until you get approval from your insurance for your psychologist. Mine made me see a psychiatrist so this may save you a trip and added expense. Also why are you having the blood work? Has you doctor done blood work on you lately? Do you have high cholesterol? When you are approved for your surgery you will have to have a pre-op by your PCP and probably have to see a cardiologist for clearance. These have to be done withing a certain time frame of your surgery. Just trying to save you some time and money and having these test done twice.

I have never had blood work done before. My insurance states that I need an evaluation by a professional... and the surgeon's office I am going through sets all of that up for me. I actually read my medical policy through my insurance last night and it states that they no longer require the six months anymore! So that was great news!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
