Reflux Prior To Vsg - Did It Improve After Ur Vsg?

Recommended Posts

I know for a lot of people the reflux, gas, etc. is pretty bad initially after surgery. For those that have pretty much healed and quite a bit of time has passed, did the surgery improve your reflux or eliminate it all together?

I have always had very bad acid reflux. For a short time after the surgery I didn't use my medication to test and see if I needed it. I went about a week without it, and started feeling the acid come up. I got back on the meds ( I don't want to mess with throat cancer, it's not worth it ). I will try again at a years time out from surgery.

I took Zantac almost every night before bed. In addition, when I had my upper GI prior to surgery, the radiologist said my reflux went very high so it was clearly a problem. Post-op, I don't take any acid medication. I did take a PPI to keep stomach acid down and to help the inside of my stomach heal but I am off that now and have no problems. I think poor eating habits prior to surger contributed to my problems and now after the surgery, I obviously eat SOOO much better.

My reflux in controlled with Nexium now. I have GERD since before surgery and horrible gas. The reflux is controlled but I still have gas and gas pain, I am hoping it gets better with the time since I am only 2 months post.

I was on Prilosec, tums, baking powder ... pre-surgery. I didn't know it, but I had a hiatal hernia, which the surgeon corrected. Ever since the surgery, I have not had to take anything. Is it because of the surgery or the eating better ...? Don't know for sure, but I feel pretty confident a hiatal hernia is not going to help.
