Is Hunger Still Normal For You?

Recommended Posts

So I've been thinking about my issues with food, and I still have MANY of them. However, something new that popped into my head earlier today was different to me. I got my lap band in May 2008, then had my revision in August 2011. I had that thing for so long, and had so many issues with it, that I just learned to deal with being hungry almost ALL the time. Now that I am sleeved, I don't really recognize when I am truly hungry, so I hardly eat. (Seriously, most days I have to remind myself to have more than a bite or two of cheese!)

Is this something anyone else went through? If so- any recommendations? I would just set an alarm on my phone, but my schedule is so whacked until I graduate from school that it's not something I can do yet.

Lucky you!!!! I still feel hunger but it is not nearly like it was before surgery when I felt hungry a lot of the time.

Kristie - I don't get hungry like I did before sleeve surgery (I am not a band revision person). But, If I go 4 hours and don't put Protein in my stomach - I get an empty feeling. If I continue longer than that, I get kind of a trembley feeling (low blood sugar). So I make sure to put some Protein in every 4 hours - I eat three meals and 2 tiny Snacks. My fav Snacks are beef Jerky or a baby bell (lite) cheese.

I am concerned you aren't getting in your protein - which long term can be really bad for your health. Take care of yourself!

I still get hungry after 3-4 hours, but it is ALOT less then before. I am filled up by much less food, but i don't forget to eat. The only thing is if I am out and about and busy, I can get off schedule, then I find myself overly hungry int he evening and eat more then i should.

I don't feel hungry, but I have a desire for food, if that makes sense. if I am busy, it is easy for me to go several hours without eating and then I start to get the low blood suger blah feeling. I might start shaking or just feeling bad in general. I try to eat every 2-3 hours just to prevent that from happeining. if I am sitting around the house, I will eat every 1.5 to 2 hours just beceause I can. Either way, it doesn't seem to harm my progress.

Setting an alarm would be a good thing. I know if I let myself get to the point where I feel shaky, I kind of feel crappy for a while even after I eat. I buy a rotisserie chicken, strip it, and put it in a storage container in the fridge so I have an easy chunk of Protein whenever I need it.

Good luck and let us know what you come up with.

I definitely do NOT eat like I should. Plus, I am JUST getting over strep throat, so it's not like I could swallow anything for a few days there anyway. LOL. I'm THIS CLOSE to being done with nursing school, and I am scared because I know exactly what my lack of eating is doing to me. I've just got this I'm used to being hungry thing going on, along with the thought of "eating is what got you to 324lbs in the first place fatty!" running in my head. I truly think I need to seek professional help for that part of it. (However- the times I DO think that I am truly hungry are times I really cannot eat without getting kicked out of class for the day! YIKES!) I just need to take some responsibility and at least grab a shake in the mornings on my way out the door...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
