peacequeen 434 Posted January 31, 2012 This might be tmi? I've tried everything but for the life of me, I can't get eating right. I've tried eating slow, tiny bites spaced out,,drinking and not drinking with my meal. I've even tried standing up and walking when eating. I can't digest food right. As soon as I'm done eating I get waves of nausea and then it feels like a bunch of belches will come up but it's liquid..if I let it out,,I'm gonna toss my Cookies. This goes on for over an hour after I eat. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong or what I could do differently?
Mrs.Prisses 51 Posted January 31, 2012 First- always consult your surgeon. That being said...I know JUST how ya feel. I have experienced that nausea with eating/drinking MANY times. For me, its been eating too fast usually. But, sometimes it isn't. The PCP told me it was the swelling in my stomach. That some days is going to be easier than others to get and keep things down because that swelling makes you produce lots of mucous. That mucous nauseates you. I found it to be even worse when I am having my woman time. But, always consult your surgeon because it may be serious or it may be normal. I had my surgery the day before you did so if I am still swollen and all screwy, maybe you are too. Just make sure you are eating slow and chew chew chewing. Also, remember your Water because that helped me. It'll be okay. *hug*
Ms skinniness 3,003 Posted January 31, 2012 awwww, this is not normal at all. Have you called your surgeon's office yet? If not, it would not hurt to run it past the surgeon. It could be really serious. Hope not, I don't mean to scare you, but it is very important to be able to eat. Take care and please keep us updated.

Hi Peacequeen, Im so so sorry to hear you've had some issues post op. I see you've also been diagnosed with a leak. Dear, have you spoken to your Surgeon? They will need to keep extra close tabs on you since you've already been diagnosed with a prior leak. Please call your Surgeon ASAP. Also, please check in to let us know how you're doing. Hugs and prayers going out to you!!! 1 MeMeMEEE reacted to this
KellyL 173 Posted January 31, 2012 It could be just acid, but definitely check with your surgeon if you've been diagnosed with a leak. I know you're ready to just get the problems behind you and move forward with feeling better and getting healthier. Feel better soon!!
peacequeen 434 Posted February 1, 2012 I have an appt tomorrow so I'll make sure to ask. I just thought if some of you here had experienced this then I could rest better tonight knowing it's not just me. My leak is supposedly healed up so I don't think that is the culprit..I'm not having any of that kind of pain. I sort of agree with KellyL, it might be acid. I was taking nexium, even before surgery,,,I have gerd. It's not working anymore so I'm trying previcid and so far, not working much better so I'm not sure. I think I'm going to try a day with all liquids again and see if that makes a difference. Thanks for all the replies.

It is the only medication that worked for me at all. Nexium didn't do a darned thing, and Prevacid seemed to make my acid worse... I hope you can find something! That acid is aweful. I now take Zegerid, it's amazingly great for me. It's Omeprazole with an absorbing ingredient attached.
Indymom 132 Posted February 1, 2012 I was on omeprazole and it didn't work - my acid production was awful. They switched me to dexilant and no problems at all now!

jewelwithin 13 Posted February 1, 2012 Peacequeen -- my surg date was right about the same time as you (12/29), and I have had the same experience. It was either major nausea or bad pain -- or both. I have med from my doc (ondansetron) for nausea, which I have used at times 2-3 times/day. That and laying down for 30-60 minutes was all I could do. I have worked on all the things folks here (and my doc) have suggested just as you have: eating slowly, chewing WELL, and no Water 30 min. before/after. Now, the pain/nausea occurs about 50% of the time, so it's still there, but not as much. I just posted a question about it asking others if their pain ever stopped, and I'm hearing that over time it will continue to get better. I have had to remind myself daily (especially if I have a bad episode) that even though my energy has pretty much returned and I look & act like the pre-op me now, my insides are still healing and because of this very much a work in progress. I think the advice to back off foods that you have a particularly bad reaction to for a few weeks is good. I've even had a couple days where just for my own comfort and sanity I stuck mostly to Protein Drinks, yogurt, Soups. (I should mention I moved to foods a little quicker than some). royboy 40 Posted February 2, 2012 I experience the same nausea as you do. I asked my surgeon last week about this. he stated that it may be hunger pains and if I couldn't deal with it he would prescribe a antinausea for me. He also stated that it will pass with time. LoserMama 37 Posted February 2, 2012 I was on omeprazole and it didn't work - my acid production was awful. They switched me to dexilant and no problems at all now! Me too, tried the OTC ones and they didn't do the trick (preop) and dexilant kicks booty.
LilMissDiva Irene 3,282 Posted February 2, 2012 Is Dexilant prescription only?
peacequeen 434 Posted February 2, 2012 Saw the pa yesterday,,she prescribed zantac to go with my nexium??? I really don't think that's going to do the trick but I'll try anything. If it fails,,calling my gastro..it's getting serious. I'm running a fever today, starting to scare me a little.
