NEONATAL RN 0 Posted July 30, 2006 I have been banded for nearly 3 years, haven't had a fill in months. I still have a problem of overeating then PBing to elimminate the pain. Last Wednesday this happened, I ate too fast, and after getting rid of the excess, I had SEVERE head pain, as if my head inside my skull was in a vice and being crushed. It took about 6 hours for this to pass, during which time I couldn't move around much and needed darkness and quiet, as in a Migraine. I had a"hangover" from it for a couple of days. Then Last night, Saturday, the same thing happened, but more severe. I am a little scared, has anyone experienced this? Of course it is the weekend, so I can't call my doc till tomorrow. I am afraid to eat anything now, other than liquids, I can't tolerate such severe and intense pain. Can anyone give some advice? Judi
vinesqueen 2 Posted July 31, 2006 Hi Judi, I cannot think that a PB would cause head pain. Anytiem soeone experiences a severe headache that is completely unlike any they have had before, they need to call their doctor or be seen by a qualified medical person ASAP. If you cannot get in to see your doctor, please either call your insuance company's nurse hotline (if you have one) or go to the ER, or call your doc and have him or her paged. This is not something to mess around with.
Wheetsin 714 Posted July 31, 2006 Let us know what your doc says. Sounds like coincidental timing maybe? Or if you were bent over for your PB, perhaps a function of the blood flow starting up too suddenly, or being restricted for too long. You say "PB to eliminate the pain". Do you "force" the PB, or does it happen naturally? If you force, could there be something in the forcing that would cause a headache -- something that would affect the natural flow of blood? Hopes place 0 Posted August 4, 2006 I certainly don't have a "doctors" response; however, yesterday I was in such pain that I forced a pb and after that I had a severe headache like I have never had before. It sent me to bed early to be in the dark and quiet but this morning it was alright. It scared me to . Hope all is well with you.
SeamsSew 0 Posted August 4, 2006 Judi-- I'm sorry to hear about your problem. It sounds awful. Unfortunately, I have no advice to offer, since I'm only considering the surgery. However, your post brings up a question I have regarding a term I keep seeing. What is PBing?
tinalondon 0 Posted August 4, 2006 take care of yourself! We had a lap band put in so we could be in better health. PBING is what got us here, and I don't like to feel sick anymore. I will be banded 1 year tomarrow, I can't believe it I still have 30lbs to go but I keep on telling myself.... this will work if I work it!.... this is just a tool we have to do the work...every day every time we open our mouth to eat. Please keep on telling yourself..."I will take care of my body"
Wheetsin 714 Posted August 4, 2006 PBING is what got us hereHow did PBing get us here? I'm really not getting that... SeamsSew - different people will use slightly different definitions for PB, but as I use it, it's having to bring up food, saliva, liquids, etc. that - for whatever reason - cannot pass through the stoma. When something cannot pass, chances are it will have to come back up on you. It's not the same as vomitting - much worse - but usually quite painful until it happens. Wheetsin 714 Posted August 4, 2006 Hi SeamsSew, read the very last paragraph I posted: SeamsSew - different people will use slightly different definitions for PB, but as I use it, it's having to bring up food, saliva, liquids, etc. that - for whatever reason - cannot pass through the stoma. SeamsSew 0 Posted August 4, 2006 I mean what do the initials PB stand for?
Wheetsin 714 Posted August 4, 2006 Productive burp. There's a pretty good list of terms/initialisms/acronyms floating around somewhere in one of the forums.
NEONATAL RN 0 Posted August 16, 2006 It seems I had a interventricular bleed in my head, a sort of stroke. Seems my electrolytes were out of what and the vomiting burst a vessel in my brain. Not something I thought could happen, but there you go. Have had MRI's MRA's, cat scans and other annoying tests. Am home from the hospital, my GI Doc came in to the Neuro ICU and loosesned my band completely. So we will see what happenens next. Will keep you all enformed.
