Did I Make A Mistake?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone - I'm new here. I had my VSG on 1/24/12. I am trying my best to be upbeat and do everything that I am supposed to be doing, but I feel as if I am failing at this! Heartburn, nausea, pain, second-guessing myself... I'm sure that it is normal and that I'm not the only one to feel this way. I just didn't plan on all of this - I don't want to fail at this, too.

Does anyone have any advice? I feel like such a loser right now.

Cheer up. It's only been 6 or 7 days since your surgery. The mistake your making is worrying too much and rushing yourself. You will get better at this. You just need to be calm and rational. Follow your doctor's instructions as best you can. Always hop back onto the band wagon and just have patience. You'll be fine.

I didn't feel good until day 14 post op and really good at about month 6. Keep keeping on, this too will pass and you will be so happy you do this for yourself :)

Did your surgeon give you perscriptions for meds for these things? I came home with meds for all three. I've only needed the nausea meds once and stopped the pain meds pretty quick. They have me on omperozole (something like that) every day for the first month. I've read many people post that the heartburn meds took care of many symptoms for you. Hope you feel better soon!! It gets better every day!

Thanks for your advice, everyone! Today was rough and I posted at a low point. I do have scripts for nausea and pain meds, but those tend to upset my stomach, too. I have my first follow-up on Wednesday (2/1/12) and I have a list of questions for my doctor.

I'll hang in there :-) This site has given me wonderful support on a day when I was really low...Hugs!

Awww :-( My dear but you ARE a loser.. The good kind!! So WELCOME!!

Take solace in knowing I too felt exactly like you're feeling right now. Yes, I doubted I did the right thing as I laid in pain in recovery or in my hospital bed. However, today I don't think you will find a BIGGER little cheerleader out there for the sleeve. :cheer2: I'm loving it a billion times over!!!

Give it time, right now all you can do is get your rest, heal, sip and walk walk walk!! Vent away too, that's what we are here for. Just know I feel ya.

Hey mom I had my sleeve on the 25th and I'm there with you. I am tired and gassy barely spoke words the first 3 days let alone feel like typing now. Everyday will get better- every.day. thats whats keeping me going. I chicken'd out 5 mins before the surgery and freaked bad, because I just wanted all this to be over with and DONE. Thankfully I have a supportive family who has my back and a kind surgery team who understood and calmed me. I would do this again. I'm happy its done and know we have a new wonderful healthy life to look forward to. Just one step at a time, one day at a time. Trust me- the head hunger is unexplainably strong but I am a fighter, I gained this weight and I am sure it's going off. You'll feel better when your body changes and feels better. I'm with you.

Currently at day 5- I am having SF Jello 2oz 3x a day., h2o and 1 premier Protein shake. The liquid intake is hard but we can do this!

You are totally normal in your feelings, I asked myselft that same thing many times. In the next few months you are going to embark on a whole new lifestlye. There is going to be a lot of adjustment and you will continue to question if you did the right thing. The mental game is so much harder than the physical. Right now, you are a few days post op. The swelling will go down, you will be able to get your fluids and Protein in and you will be feeling physically better inside of 2 weeks. Once you get into the groove, you will establish a new healthy norm. Your body will change, your relationship with food will change as well as the way you conduct yourself in a social atmosphere. The only thing that stands in the way of sucess is how you adapt to your sleeve. Each of us has been given the opportunity to control our appetites and acheive that which we have been chasing for so long. Hang in there. The results are so worth the effort! Good luck and stay strong!

well first thing is stop feeling sorry for yourself you had this done because you are the living exsample of unhappyness and its not reversable so all the worry in the world wont change that. So lets look to a better life that you will be getting out of this with years of health & happyness. It wont be long and all the pain will be a thing of the past in six weeks your going to be pain free.. I ate sugar free popcycles & Jello for awhile the cold helped also Hot tea with splenda worked great at night. If you can workout a little after week 4 id say do it..Hit the treadmill or olyptical as much as possible.I was feeling sorry for myself at first like you.. But after awhile I seen no one but me was going to make this thing work and my sergery was just what i needed to get the jump on my life. So with hope in my operation i put faith & application to it and then i started seeing results. you can fail or you can be faithfull. Im in month 14 was 374lbs-went down to190lbs 40lbs muscle mass growth that fixed my loose skin issue now at 230lbs solid. 14%body fat from 36% 54 waist to a 36 xxxxxl shirt to xl. this will be you and all the pain i woke up to after the operation acid burning in my stomach and fear. Id do it again for the life and health I have now totally worth it...

It is normal to feel like "#/*!" after surgery - your body does not like to be cut on. It took me a couple of weeks to really be over the surgery - as it did with my other non-WLS surgeries.

For the nausea, I drank broth (either chicken or beef or veggie) and used GASX strips. Somehow, the combination of a GASX Strip with a broth "chaser" - sipped slowly worked. Sometimes I used mint tea, warm with spenda instead of the broth with the GASX.

I also used FAMOTADINE morning and evening and sometimes mid-day early in my sleeve journey. FAMOTADINE is prescription Pepcid. I also used PRILOSEC in the evenings for the first 8 or 9 months.

It does get better - just give it some time. The #1 most important thing right now is to focus on getting your fluids in to keep from getting dehydrated. Dehydration will land you back in the hospital. Tiny sips throughout the day is the way to go.

Again - thank you all for taking the time to respond to a newbie who was having a bad day and throwing her own pity party :-) I'm following everyone's suggestions.

I had my surgery out-of-state and have been staying with my sister during my recovery. I think missing my husband and son on top of everything else has thrown me for an emotional loop as well. Hopefully the doctor will give me the okay to go home at tomorrow's appointment. My fingers are crossed!

What a great community - hugs to you all.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
