OilSooner 23 Posted January 30, 2012 So, tomorrow I am officially two weeks out from surgery. I go back to work tomorrow as well. As far as eating, I have restriction, but have no digestion problems other than lactose intolerance. I can eat anything, only in small portions, and very slowly. My surgeon didn't use a bougie, so I wonder if thats a factor. Anyway, I had chicken pot pie last night ( the small Marie calendar oven kind), and even a mcdouble (the dollar menu one) for lunch today. WAY less than I used to eat, but I'm still clearly ahead of most people I read about on here. I'm sure some will be angry and shocked, but surely I can't be the only one. If you are or were in my shoes, please let me know. I am actually very happy with how the surgery worked out and with the restriction I feel, but am a bit worried that I can eat what I can. Weight is still coming off (I'm averaging about 1000 calories per day), and there was no real post up diet from my surgeon, so I'm basically winging it by just going with what feels ok. I plan to start crossfit next week. Anyway, ready for people to start flaming me.
mullet head 18 Posted January 30, 2012 I don't think anyone will judge you here... CONGRATS on you lose!! I was kinda the same way, no real "restriction" as far as what i could eat, only the amount...the BIG diff is that I (like most) had a fairly strict routine following surgery and "graduated" from liquid to mushy to soft to solid after each follow up...back on real food after about 4-6 weeks from surger...all for safety reasons and to not push your new tummy too far to fast and allow your body to heal... All that being said, like I have said here before, this surgery does not change a person, we all (most) have the ability to eat what we want...but that is not necessarily a good thing, we must still make the "right" choices in life and balance ourselves...after all, it was our "imbalance" that got us here in the first place!! I have also been cross fitting...man I am sore today!! Good luck!!
CAsleeve 56 Posted January 30, 2012 Hey, it is obviously working for you. I was sleeved the same day, 1/17. Two more weeks of the liquid phase and then two weeks of pureed phase for me. I do find it strange that you weren't given a post-op diet.
Mrs.Prisses 51 Posted January 30, 2012 Congrats! I am no physician or nutritionist...I just want to gently remind you that in order to have long term health success, you have to change your lifestyle by choosing healthy foods. They took our stomachs, not our appetites. Its up to us to choose wisely what we give our bodies to live off. Nutritious foods should always be a first choice. Not judging or anything cause I think that its wonderful for you to be taking charge of your health and all. I'm just gently reminding you BTW: I'm just gonna keep it real and say McDouble may not be the most nutritious choice, but, we all have time constraints now and again. 1 pussnboots reacted to this
OilSooner 23 Posted January 30, 2012 Def agree on the McDs food choice...it was bad, but my choices were VERY limited. One thing I realize I have little knowledge on is how to prepare a healthy meal....I know what health foods are, but constructing a healthy meal is a whole other thing. Any good ideas or websites for this? Maybe a cooking class?
Mrs.Prisses 51 Posted January 30, 2012 IDEA: skinless Mc Nuggets I'm just sayin. Also, I have an ap called LoseIT! It is great. I also use Daily Cardio Free (i do the 5 minute work outs at my desk!). There is also Workout Trainer, My Fitness Pal, and the Noom Calorific app. The Noom one is good because you can log your small bites of food, no exact measuring needed. And really, if your journaling what you eat and how much you exercise, you can pretty much bank on making healthier choices. You will see your missteps and begin to correct them soon then just with trial and error alone. Eventually, you will learn what works best for you. I like Atkins style eating because it is less sugar and more Protein. I try to stay away from fats and concentrated sweets. But, you have to blaze your own trail. Definitely try to steer clear of anything that doesn't have nutritional value. You need every nutrient you can get with such limited intake. YOU CAN DO IT! GO YOU! :not_ripe:
Catracks 865 Posted January 30, 2012 This is what I packed for Breakfast and lunch today: Protein shake with 6 oz milk, vanilla Protein and SF orange flavoring 2 oz ahi tuna steak 2 oz cottage cheese 5 slices of cucumber 1 oz Greek yogurt with blue cheese stirred in 5 high protein crackers I got at Cost Plus The tuna is great protein. I cooked it fresh, but you can get it out of a can if you can't find ahi. The cottage cheese is 2% fat from the store Peel and slice a cumcumber Mix 3 oz. Fage Greek yogurt with 2 oz of blue or gorganzola cheese. Take only 1 oz as a dip for the cucumber I would skip the crackers if you can't find low carb, high protein ones. Tomorrow I am having a Protein Shake, shrimp with cocktail sauce, cottage cheese, low carb crackers, cucumber and greek yogurt dip. Next day: Protein Shake, 2 oz pan seared filet mignon, greek yogurt dip, cucumber and dip Day after: Protein shake, Slice of turkey wrapped around a slice of avocado, 1 oz cheese, roasted chick peas. It's not that you are going too fast. Most of us would not be eating fast food and if so, the bun would not be eaten. I would definetely suggest nutrition classes and cooking classes. To me it's second nature. I forget that some folks just don't cook. Like the ahi. I went to Trader Joes and got sashimi grade ahi. I marinated in in soy, lemon juice, garlic and cayenne pepper. I heated up a cast Iron pan with a tiny bit of oil. I like mine really rare so I seared each side for 1 minute. Barbecuing is a GREAT way to make healthy food. Get a lean piece of skinless chicken, pork or lean beed like fillet, london broil or even sirloin. Marinate the meat in your favorite herbs and spices. Grill. You can grill vegetables as well. It looks like yor weight loss is fine, but I guaratee you will feel better eating good food that you make.
circa 333 Posted January 30, 2012 even at mcdonalds you can make very good choices - get a mcgrill - toss the bun - eat the veggies and the chicken breast. Sometimes its hard to think about that when you know you're pressed and you're at the drive thru speaker. Try to go online and look at the fast food menus and pre plan what you could eat there now, that way you're not caught without a plan. I'm a bit shocked you didn't have a post-op diet either - I would be calling the surgeon's office and asking what you should be eating. At 2 weeks out, your tummy is still healing - I wouldn't want you to cause a leak
IowaAndy 95 Posted January 30, 2012 I do find it strange that you doctor did not give you a post op diet. I have never heard of such a thing and wonder where and who did your surgery. My diet was laid out for the next 6 months in the diet that I was given. I am 8 weeks out and just starting to eat some solid foods and have already found some that do not set well. I can not imagine being where you are and eating anything that I want. I would have been sick all day every day. Would be glad to share my diet with you if you want to try going at a slower pace. lml32937 65 Posted January 31, 2012 Even if your doctor didnt give you a post op diet as you say; you should have had a pre op with dietician- I would contact that person and get in ASAP- Not only is that not heathy it is not allowing your body to heal post surgically. It is so much more than a "diet". It is re-working your brain...
