Tingling In Back And Minor Short Term Memory Problems?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!!!!

I haven't been on in awhile, I just moved to brooklyn and I am now a nanny to a six-week old, so I've been crazy busy!

I have a question for everyone. For a little while I kept getting a tingling near my back, below my shoulder blades but a bit lower. I would feel it anytime I put anything in my sleeve (Water, food, etc). It went away pretty quickly but occasionally I still feel it. Anyone else experience this?

The second question I have is about minor short term memory problems. I find that I keep forgetting words or I lose my train of thought fairly easily. At first I didn't think anything of it, but then I realized that it was happening quite often. I am an honor student in the sciences...memorization and quick thinking and being sharp are important! I was thinking this might be a Vitamin thing? I only take a multi as my surgeon said the others were suggested, but not required. I'm living on a student's budget so cost was very important. I couldn't really afford all of the others so I didn't. At this point I have a steadier income so I was wondering if that was the problem. I was thinking of starting a B12 regiment. I didn't consider it before since I don't have energy problems.

Thanks everyone!

I have the same symptoms if I don't take my B12 regularly. Not sure what you have available, but Walgreens and CVS usually have B1G1 sales on Vitamins. That's when/where I purchase mine.

I have no idea on the tingling. Might be worth a quick call to your doctor, although it's probably nothing. Anytime you're worried about something, it's better to call and be sure rather than endure and have it be a problem later.

hi. i don't know too much about the tingling sensation. But I do know that when we cut down our carbs significantly we can go into ketosis. One of the side effects could be difficulty with memory recall. I know that when I was doing the 5 day boot camp, I had the same difficulty that you are describing. So I needed to increase my carbs and memory recall went back to normal. I love the weight drop when I do decrease my carbs substanially. Best thing would be to call your surgeon's office tomorrow and explain about the tingling and memory recall. ;)

Do you have any other illnesses? Or do you take any Rx meds? I have fibromyalgia and take several meds for that and all of it's associated disorders. I have what's called the "Fibro Fog", but trust me; it is far worse than that! It is like I have Alzheimer's disease. I forget the names of common objects, including those of my children {any of them will answer to "hey you". When I talk to my husband at night, they are referred to by sizes: the big one, the little one etc.) Example- where's the ketchup? It in the....that thing where we keep food cold (refrigerate). 2. Will you get me...oh that thing that you take the wrinkles out with (iron). I say all the time, "what's this called?" I am so ready for my surgery. I have hopes of dumping that bag of meds right along with a hundred pounds. Another thing that can cause that fog is, sleep deprivation. Are you resting well? Are you the one taking care of the baby at night? If so, you are playing the role of new mom; and trust me, any of us with experience can tell you. When your baby is very small, you can't remember what day of the week it is; let alone some memorization facts for school. Hope you figure it out. Best wishes :0)

I would recommend getting on a B12 regimen and having your doctor check your B12 levels.

I would also recommend you take Calcium supplements.

Does your multi Vitamin have extra Iron in it? You need take one with Iron in it.

Good Luck.

Agree, I notice too that when I'm not taking my supplements like I should I also start feeling like I'm not "connecting" properly. It might be a good idea to get the panels checked. I make sure I get mine done regularly. That said I'm about a month overdue, but that's only because I've had to reschedule my appt. I'm up in a few weeks.

Thanks everyone! Luckily the tingling has seemed to pass, I used to get it on a daily basis for about a week but now it might be once a month.

As for getting my levels checked, that is the difficult part about being in NY. Technically I still live with my mom in Jacksonville. I have it that way so that I can remain covered under her insurance. Because I'm on her insurance everything in NY is considered "out of network" so I would have to pay out of pocket. My surgeon normally does blood-work at the 1 year mark, unless there are reasons to do it sooner. I am going to try the b-12, and if I still have issues I'll call them.

Oh, and I do not have any other illnesses or problems. I don't take any prescription meds either, so it isn't a medication problems. But thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks everyone!

I was very airheaded for the first few months after surgery. I forgot everything. I even pumped gas into my gas tank and drove away with it still attached! But, my mind has come back. I have no idea why I was so airheaded, but I was. I also felt tingling in my hands and legs. That also went away.

I had the memory problem also (couldn't figure out how to use the hand can opener). I was scared to death! I got tested and my Iron was very low. Once I started taking iron, I haven't had the problem again

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
